1987 Audi 4000 CS Quattro 1.7L
Summary:
This is the absolute best car I have ever driven
Faults:
So far there aren't too many things wrong. When we went to test drive the car it was leaking anti-freeze. The dealership fixed this promptly, and two days later I was in the driver's seat.
The rear driver's side power window switch is busted.
The switch used to designate which power mirror you are adjusting is broken, so I can't adjust my right mirror. This isn't that big of a deal because I don't use that mirror much anyway and it is not too far out of alignment.
The speakers crackle a little, but this is understandable for a car that is 17 years old.
It seems like the gas mileage is a little low. (my former eagle summit, which is a piece of junk, was slightly better in this area)
General Comments:
I was completely blown away by the 1987 Audi 4000 CS Quattro. This car was so far ahead of its time when it was built. It was kept in very good condition by the single owner before me and that is definitely shown by looking at the car. The upholstery is in near mint condition as well as the exterior.
The 5 speed manual transmission is really easy to shift with and seems to handle very well. I have only had this car for a few days, but I have definitely put her to the test. There is some serious power under the hood, which is surprising considering she looks like a family sedan from the outside. The "Quattro" (permanent all wheel drive) keeps the car stuck to the road like glue. This lets you whip around 90+ deg turns at high speeds.
I love all the additional standard features in this car. There is a power sunroof, power mirrors, power locks, and power steering. The car is very roomy and extremely comfortable. Another great feature is the knob that switches between locking the front differential and both the front and rear differentials on the fly. I am almost looking forward to icy roads so I can test this out properly.
I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants to drive a superior automobile. I have been told that despite its age the car should last for at least 200-300 miles (assuming it is properly maintained). If you see an Audi 4000 CS Quattro listed at a reasonable price you should jump on the opportunity to own one of the best cars you can buy.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

OK I myself just last week bought a 1987 Audi 4000 cs and I was a little worried that I might be getting ripped off, but after buying the car and giving it a good test run I am quite impressed! I did not expect there to be as much power under the hood as there was! I am very glad a bought this car and I am more confident that I got a good buy thanks to this review! The car does have a few problems with its power windows and I did have to put in some new speakers! But I agree that if anyone is interested in a great car that the Audi 4000 cs is a great buy! Especially if you live in places that you could use its all wheel drive!

As a 1987 4000 quattro owner for the past 12 years, I want to caution you on testing the locking differential on icy roads - in my experience it's best for pulling the car out of deep snow. With the differentials locked, it's easier to lose control. The unlocked position has worked flawlessly for me in all but the deepest snow.
