2002 Audi A4 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Beware of faulty engine. Don't buy this model

Faults:

Clutch went out at 65,000 miles and cost $1,000.

Rear Window puller levy broke at 68,000 miles.

Glove box fell apart at 72,000 miles.

O2 Sensor went out at 80,000 and possibly the cat. converter.

Engine threw a rod at 87,000 due to "oil sludge" problem which is apparently a defect in that model, but instead of doing an engine recall, they implemented a "warranty". I just changed the oil... there's oil in the car. There are so many loopholes, it is almost impossible to get Audi to pay for the $7,000 engine.

General Comments:

I would never purchase another one. My car is sitting in a different city right now with a blown engine and has under 100,00 miles. In the mean time, I'm driving my dad's 1996 Ford F150 with 260,000 miles and it runs a lot better than my Audi A4...

2002 Audi A4 1.8T

Summary:

Beautiful car but too many problems

Faults:

The coils have been replaced 4 times.

The coolant tank leaked.

The transmission starting having problems at 50,000 miles. The electronic chip/control for the transmission had to be replaced but it didn't fix the problem. The entire transmission needs to be replaced.

General Comments:

The car is great when it works. But it has so many mechanical problems and is so unreliable. Some problems occurred while under warranty so it was great b/c it replaced for free. But since it's been out of warranty, that's when all the major problems (the transmission) with the car came. I've had 2 friends who have had their transmissions completely replaced with less than 30,000 miles. I've had to get the car towed so many times to the dealership that the Audi service guys and the car rental guys located in the dealership recognize me.

There are too many problems with the CVT transmission. Audi needs to own up to it. Don't get an Audi with a CVT transmission!

2002 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0

Summary:

I want my money back!

Faults:

Buttons have worn.

Water pump broke at 70k (cost 1,000) to repair.

Had to replace timing belt.

Had to replace O2 sensor twice.

Brakes expensive to replace.

Sunroof malfunctions.

Both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced.

General Comments:

I have driven this car for less than 2,000 miles and have already had to spend well over $2,000 on repairs.

I would never purchase an Audi again.

From now I'm going back to Japanese cars-- reliable and cheap.

This car still has relatively low mileage, these problems should not be happening.

On the plus side, it is comfortable to drive and handles beautifully on the highway.

But repairs are costly and often and gas is expensive!

The car gets about 20 miles/ gal.

2002 Audi A4 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Don't Buy an AUDI... it comes with Problems

Faults:

Firstly, I will say, I have loved the service that comes with the car... But please get the EXTENDED warranty, as I have had to use it 3 times now and being my car is 6 years old and ONLY has 60,000kms... i find this ridiculous

The things that have been a problem with this essentially still new car are:

- TWICE replaced the Fuel Pump and YES I use TOP end fuel... told that it was the company I was using and should use a different company

- Injector line plugging

- Vacuum Line not getting sufficient air through, requiring replacement.

And the MOST RECENT trouble... in a 60,000km car, driven daily with work duties...

- The Gasket is leaking oil... bizarre...

General Comments:

The car has got good "get up and go" and a convenient car.

Gas mileage is not that great, and with the cost of fuel lately and the need for this car to effectively run with high end fuel... it's an extra cost...
