2001 Audi A6 2.8 V6

Summary:

My first new Audi, my last Audi

Faults:

A coolant leak has been repaired at the t-fitting 6 times.

The brake rotors have been machined twice to remove the pulsation at slow speeds.

The sunroof seal makes a loud noise when opening the roof after the car has been sitting in the sun. They reset the glass panel, but it made no difference.

The headliner makes various annoying rattles over even small bumps.

The storage compartments on the passenger side doors vibrate loudly with even mild bass coming from the speakers.

The driver's seat leather lost some of its grain and became somewhat glossy after a few thousand miles (no, I'm not large). The center armrest leather is losing some of the texture as well. I think the texture was added to the leather. The 2002 model's leather texture looks even cheesier. My earlier Audi's leather wasn't as soft, but held up much better.

The driver side sun visor vibrates against the headliner, so I attached a small rubber pad to keep it still.

The woodgrain inserts on the 2 front doors are popping away from the door panel. I am waiting to have these fixed because I fear the panel will have new rattles when the tech reseats the door panel.

General Comments:

This is my fourth consecutive A6, so I am qualified to notice the poor quality. I hear every rattle and notice every imperfection.

The car looks and drives wonderfully, but I cannot see a reason to get a fifth one. My previous Audis were built better.

Dealer service has been amateur at best. The dealers in Phoenix are owned by the same company.

I can only add this.

Timing belt replacement along with water pump - 1200 dollars.

All A6s from 1999 to 2000 have a leaking gaskets. Cam gasket along with cam tensioner gasket - 2000 dollars to replace.

You have to take the car to the dealer only, and SERVICE IS BAD! Buy it new, drive it for 30.000 miles, and sell it. It is definitely not a Passat. Gas mileage is terrible.

2001 Audi A6 2.7T

Summary:

Do not buy this car

Faults:

Front rotors wore out after 18K miles.

Rear rotors wore out after 25K miles.

Audi admits the rotors are too thin and fixed the problem in the 2002 models, however they would not replace mine with the newer rotors.

Turbo boost went out around 18K miles.

Interior door panel wouldn't shut.

Transmission started banging into third gear when accelerating from second gear. Of course, the dealer could not duplicate the problem.

General Comments:

The reliability of the A6 2.7T is a big let down after you've paid 46K plus tax. I've taken the car into the dealer for repairs eight times in a year and half.

The 2.7T is fun to drive, it's very fast and the suspension and handling are amazing.

The leather interior was very well done, however the driver's side is cramped and your right leg is never comfortable.
