1991 Audi V8 Quattro Quattro 3.6L 32v V8
Summary:
In my opinion, it is a very big, safe, comfortable rocket ship with heated seats and a great stereo
Faults:
I have done several things that are really just required service, but they were fairly expensive (for me anyway) - even though I did the work myself.
I replaced the clutch and timing belt.
Total cost for both jobs was about $4000 and includes having the transmission overhauled ($1800 and not really needed, but I wanted new oil seals) and lots of other new parts like water pump, motor mounts, fan drive clutch, rear main seal, etc.
I am currently having the power steering pump rebuilt because it developed a small leak. That is the closest thing to a "failure" I have had. This seems to be sort of an Audi thing.
General Comments:
The interior (all leather) has held up very well.
The carpet is real wool and still looks great.
The body in general has held up great and still looks good even after all these years. This car loves road trips and the V8 has power to spare. It has a top end of 150MPH if you are brave/dumb enough to test it. The quattro system is simply amazing.
This car also has a very long list of safety features.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Can't you people read? The original author said he's having the POWER STEERING pump rebuilt, which is a perfectly legitimate repair.

My '92 V-8 has had six power steering pumps, as well as a steering rack and two or three hoses. It would seem that the entire system was not necessarily up to the rigors of the pounds per square inch operating pressure. Here in Vail, where there are lots of Audi's, the parts store calls that expensive P.S. fluid "Audi juice."

If you need PS fluid for your V8Q use Mobil 1 synthetic automatic transmission fluid. Works great and a lot cheaper!

According to Audi Technical Service Bulletin, a small bit of antifreeze leakage is normal for the V8, because of the water pump design. I got this from an All Data online mechanical service manual. You should check with an Audi Dealer before spending a bunch of money.
