How about reviewing the car please.

I too would like to know how you like the ride, how it drives, what you think of the interior.

Basically describe what you like and don't like about the car besides the fact that you like it overall (which you must have anyways to buy it).

Congratulations on graduating from the world of Dodge Neons to the world of BMWs. BMW world is a friendlier, more reliable place and you will be very happy here. I have been here for three years with a 1994 318i and I too will continue to buy BMWs.

1993 BMW 3 Series 2.5

Summary:

Love it, can't wait for the next 3 series

Faults:

Changed the radiator, water pump, fan clutch at about 100K. Then the fan clutch again abou 150K miles. Window switch failure all except drivers'. Driver seat starting to wear, finally. Computer gets wet above glovebox in the engine compartment. Dealer quoted me $700.00 but I just took out the computer and dried up the moister from rain. Need to replace plastic cover under windshield wipers, will fix problem. One lifter is sticking, but hasn't hurt performance.

General Comments:

The car seems to get better in performance year by year. It starts and runs like a clock, besides the tired lifter knock. I am a very hard driver, everyday, starting and stopping the car at least 10 times a day. I feel like the car never complains. Overall best car that I've purchased.

1993 BMW 3 Series 318i 1.8

Summary:

Nice Car, but Wet

Faults:

I had a problem. I just purchased this car... which I have all service records from. The car seems to have had some minor problems, but nothing major. I had discovered a problem and have no clue why this is happening. I floor behind the drivers side rug is soaking wet... Window wasn't open, sunroof closed (no signs of water). Water anywhere except on the floor? Any idea's? A/C leak maybe?

General Comments:

I really love this car. I do see some rust around the rear door tops, but I'm having it all repainted so that doesn't matter. This car seems to run great, but I guess time will tell.

Great on gas not like my Dodge Intreped ES for sure.

1993 BMW 3 Series 318i 1.8L in-line 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great first car - Don't buy without service records

Faults:

Ball joints needed replacement immediately after purchase.

Back-up light switch that screws onto transmission. Only $20 and I managed to convince the dealer to put it in for free.

Thermometer screen flickers, but still displays correct temperature.

Serious rust has developed along many seams around doors etc. as well as the rocker panels almost totally eaten through from the inside out.

Timing chain cover (upper and lower) oil leak.

Engine/transmission main seal oil leak.

Cylinder head oil leak.

All these oil leaks have contaminated the clutch, which now slips badly.

Minor interior problems due to age and wear. Many repairs of this nature you can do yourself very quickly and easily. Nothing to fuss about.

General Comments:

When I saw this car, it was love at first sight. It is 11 years old and it's still one of the best looking cars on the road. I was so obsessed with it that I ignored the signs that this car might be trouble.

The car is quite comfortable. It is fairly easy to find a good driving position despite the lack of tilt-steering. However, on longer trips you'll have to move around quite a bit to keep from getting sore. This car has ergonomics in mind, but is not even and entry-luxury.

The performance is lacking, but quite reasonable from a 1.8L engine. You can manipulate the 5 speed gearbox enough to make your ride interesting, but if you want power, try the 325i. Another route is to go to the aftermarket and look at superchargers/computer chips, but by the time you put money into that you could be driving a 325i, which is a nicer car anyway.

Put simply, the stock sound system is terrible. It is a 6 speaker system, but it totally lacks any low-range response. I'm not the type to drive around with bass you can hear down the block so I'm not expecting too much. It's just that the original speakers are very cheap.

The handling on the 318i is awesome! It will whip around corners with confidence, but due to the lack of traction control you can cause the back-end to come loose with a little throttle. It is also a fairly comfortable ride at the same time, dealing with rough pavement with an abundance of poise and refinement.

This is not a quiet car by any description. You always know the engine is there, especially at highway speeds - At 120km/h the engine is at 3500rpm in 5th gear.

There's a full-sized spare tire!

If you buy this car, make sure it has been dealer serviced, I can't stress that enough. Then take it to your mechanic anyway. Main concerns are body rust and oil leaks.
