1990 BMW 5 Series 525i M20

Faults:

Brakes and rotors changed.

Need to recharge A/C.

Timing belt, water pump, and belts are changed.

Oil pan gasket changed.

Some wear on the driver seat.

Front stabilizer rods changed.

Cleaned injectors.

Messed with oxygen sensor, engine light is comes on and off, but no hesitations or start up problems.

Tiny leak on exhaust pipes, barely hear it.

Broke the plastic intake elbow, plastic drys ands cracks.

Not as quick as my '84 533i, but that car had a stopping problem anyway.

General Comments:

Very easy car to work on, did everything myself.

Wish it had more room for rear seats.

Love it on highway, very smooth.

No problems with timing belt, its easy to change and lets you have a closer look to your engine every 40-50K.

Car stops very stable and quick.

I get 23mpg combined.

1990 BMW 5 Series 535i 3.5

Summary:

Nice car, but over rated by people

Faults:

I have replaced the fuel tank, rear brakes, coil springs, lkm module, and various tune up items. Minor rust has been repaired on the bottom of fenders, aroung the fuel door and door sills. Just getting the bugs worked out for my wife to drive.

Interior (navy leather) showing a little chaffing, but in good shape.

General Comments:

The car handles well for a stock vehicle.

The power is nothing to go crazy over, but is OK.

The cabin fit is good. I am 6'4", 280lbs.

The original Arctic Blue paint is like new.

An m30 engine mated to a slushbox does NOT automotive viagra make.

You'd be far more impressed with a 5 speed example.

I have a 1990 535i with 220,000+ miles on it. It has a 5 speed manual transmission and I love it! Parts can be a bit expensive, but so are all parts for other cars. I replaced the water pump, radiator and battery. The car had 189,000 on it when I bought it. Still looks good after all these years.

1990 BMW 5 Series 525i 2.5L M20

Summary:

Great car to live with.

Faults:

Replaced brakes and control arms at 60,000 miles.

Timing belt replaced at 72,000 miles (should have replaced at 50,000 just didn't get around to it, old belt looked great-no cracking and lots of tooth left). Replaced belts, hoses and water pump at this time just for peace of mind, not really worn out, but easy to do since the car was apart to change the timing belt. Also replaced the cam seal, rotor and distributer cap, again just for peace of mind, not leaking or broken.

Passenger side rear wheel bearing replaced at 83,000 miles.

Some dash lights burned out, replaced all.

New battery.

Brake light bulbs replaced.

General Comments:

Very solid car. Still tight and rattle free at 100,000 miles. Everything still works, electric windows etc. Some rust along door edges where the rubber strip fits over the bottom of the doors. The rest of the car is rust free.

Very comfortable, leather seats show no wear.

Ride and handling are excellent.

Could use more power, the old M20 is reliable, but...

1990 BMW 5 Series 535i M30

Summary:

The best car ever made

Faults:

Nothing, really. Some wear and tear items.. I had the suspension replaced and put in performance shocks/springs. I also had to change a front left control arm. The transmission is good for 250,000 miles.. a miracle of engineering, really. The car runs great; it doesn't burn oil, and the compression is like new. I just love it.

General Comments:

It's the perfect car. Stylish, safe, comfortable, performs well, handles well.

Hi, Your comment is very useful, I own a 1993 Acura Legend Coupe, but I have just found a 535i, 1993, Silver with black leather interior. It is in good shape, with only 55,000 miles. I only have one question before I make my decision: How is your MPG in a 535i automatic??

Thanks.

Miguel.

I have a 1990 535i auto, and I get 16 MPG city with a light foot, and 22 MPG on the highway at a constant 70mph.

Replacement parts vary in price; some are more than American cars, and some parts are less, but if you are replacing parts, it may as well be on a great car like the 535 BMW.

1990 BMW 5 Series 525 i 2.5 gas

Summary:

A reliable surefooted fun car

Faults:

I have replaced a radiator hose.

I have replaced the oil pan gasket.

I have put new rotors and pads on it when I bought it.

General Comments:

I love the road handling, and incredible dependability and low cost of operation. I have found local BMW only mechanics and parts stores on the internet and rarely need either.
