1986 Buick Century Custom 2.5 Liter

Summary:

Awesome car, very reliable

Faults:

When I got the car the water pump was starting to make a noise - replaced 3-4 months later.

When I got it, the belts were also badly worn out and replaced.

The car had 69000 original miles without a tune up - performed a tune up.

Computer went at 76000.

One belt snapped and broke at 79000.

Oxygen sensor went at 76000.

Brakes occasionally lock in the rear for no reason. Brought to 3 mechanics and they could not find the problem. Common with these cars too I guess. And no farther problems.

General Comments:

I've had great luck with this car despite the occasional problems associated with a 20 year old car, and it runs awesome. I have not had any major problems and other than the brakes occasionally locking up in the rear, it drives and handles well.

By far for owning nearly two years there have been no major problems and the car seems to provide great feedback when there is a problem, which allows time to get it fixed.

The paint is starting to fade and peel, but, it has served me very well and even given me awesome gas mileage. The lowest gas mileage I've ever gotten is 20 mpg and the highest was 28mpg. For a big old car this is amazing, especially considering the amount of hills I drive up and down, and the fact it sits for the majority of most weeks.

1986 Buick Century Limited 3.8 Fuel Injection

Summary:

Great Town car and cruiser

Faults:

Cooling fan sensor failed at 88,000 Miles.

Heater Core went out at 90,000 miles.

Replaced Water pump at 94,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very reliable car if you treat it good. I got it for $1800, a reasonable price. This car is great for commuting to work, or just cruising around town. I've had some problems with the driver side window motor, but other than that, the interior is in great condition! This car has more power than you think, with a 3.8 L 231 C.i. engine. It can easily peel out (which I have done one too many times).

If you maintain this car, it will perform a whole lot better. I have had few problems in the two years I have had it, costing around $700, which is not bad at all, considering the age. This car is almost 20 years old, and I have BEAT a brand new Dodge neon off the line!!!

In conclusion, this car is great if you are looking for affordable comfort, and a good car to get to work everyday. I give it 9 out of 10.

I agree, I just recently bought a used Buick Century from someone. They said they bought it brand new, so I figured it would be a hunk of junk. But surprisingly, the car was a dream. I don't know of any other 20 year old car that runs as good as this car. The interior hasn't lost it's charm and it runs like a dream.

I have one too, it's a buick century 1986 limited and it runs so good, that and it look better in the inside that a lot of people keep telling me to sell it, but I don't want too cause its too good, and its in the best condition.

I owned a 1982 century when it was new and its the reason why me and my family changed to Honda's.Anyone who had the 3.0 v6 know what a hunk of junk it was.

The 3.0 had problems, but the 2.5 four cylinder, 3.3 six, and 3.8 six were all highmilage bulletproof engines. Too bad you waste money on Hondas - a good used Century is like a grand or two.
