1987 Buick Century LTD
Summary:
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat
Faults:
I've had to replace the brakes, but I expected to have to do that. I didn't expect the brake line to give out while I was driving it, though, without warning.
I've replaced the tires, simply because they were kind of balding.
I've got a window gasket that's in need of replacement, and the door pins are loose.
The transmission isn't really tight, but it works. I like to think of it as a quirk, until it really becomes a problem. So far it's been consistent.
I had a fuse box problem. One of the fuses went out, and the filament stayed together. It melted some wires and it melted a hole in the fuse box. I ended up stranded, because one of the fuses it took with it was for the fuel pump.
General Comments:
Other than the above, the car has been reliable. I can live without a radio and I can live without a cigarette lighter. It starts without any trouble, and it's a good winter car. It's also a very smooth ride. It handles really well for a big-ish car. I have no complaints about the interior or the way the car runs.
The point is, the price is right. You can pick one up for less than $1000, and for that, you get reliability, if not without some routine hiccups. My car has lasted me for almost 3 years now, and I hope to see it through as many more as I can nurse it through. I wouldn't try to talk anyone out of buying one, even if my troubles with it sound like something to avoid. I haven't had any major repairs to pay for. Most of the problems I've had are due to sheer age, use, and routine maintenance.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
