Summary:

Well considering I got it at a steal at only 400 dollars, it was worth it, and I'm still driving it

Faults:

The transmission is slipping in 3rd gear and in overdrive.

The axle needs to be replaced.

General Comments:

I love the smooth floaty ride that it gives, and it handles pretty well for a large car. The inside is roomy and spacious, and very comfortable. I love my LeSabre.

1988 Buick LeSabre Custom 3.8

Summary:

Very comfortable, reliable car

Faults:

New auto tranny at 180k.

Hard starting for a while but fixed that.

General Comments:

Very reliable car, nice and roomy.

Fairly cheap to buy parts for and repair.

Leather interior wears nicely even after driving every day for 13 years.

I had a 87 Buick LeSabre, it was a piece of junk, it had power, had comfort, but my tranny line leaks, no more power steering, had to change the steering column, the exhaust fell off, and many many more problems!!!

Have a '88 Buick LeSabre T Type and love it! Comfortable leather seats smooth ride, cheap on gas and most of all brings in attention. Went to fill it up once the gas clerk said "Pump 7 on for the Buick car thing. Went in to pay for gas and people kept on asking what type of car it was.

1988 Buick LeSabre Custom V-6

Summary:

A great bargain for the money I paid!

Faults:

Replaced rotors.

Replaced alternator.

Replaced disc pads.

Replaced battery.

General Comments:

Considering the high mileage the car had when I bought it, the car has been the best all around used car I have ever owned and better than some new cars I have owned. I only paid $2,300 for it when purchased in May of 1997. I certainly think I have gotten my money's worth. I am still driving it. Car looks good and drives well. Good car!

1988 Buick LeSabre V6

Summary:

Comfortable, but not reliable

Faults:

Starter and tranny.

General Comments:

We made a mistake buying this car because it had so many miles. Whenever you went over 50 mph, the car would vibrate like you wouldn't believe.

It left us stranded once due to the starter and the transmission went at 151,000 miles. We decided that since it had so many miles, it wasn't worth fixing. We would probably get another LeSabre but with a lot less miles.

Well, for starters, I just bought a 1988 Buick LeSabre Custom from a 90 year old neighbor. It had 118,000 miles in March of 2003 when I bought it from him. It now has 119,000 miles and still running strong. The car was garage kept and serviced every 2,500 miles (have garage papers). The only thing, so far, that I have had to do to it was put new front brakes on and new wiper blades.

Not to sound like a know it all or anything, but when buying a car with 100,000+ miles you have to consider that some of the parts are starting to get worn out. When you bought your car with 147,000 miles on it, you should have thought more about the age of the car, what kind of miles was put on it, and the life it has had.

Also, I believe that if a car is taken car of properly and serviced regularly, that it will probably last a little longer than a car that has been mistreated. Not saying that yours was or anything, just a point to ponder.

Truth is, some of the problems with car can happen to anyones, whether it be new or old. Buying a car that is around 12-15 years old can be a big mistake, than again, it could be the best money ever spent. WHO KNOWS???

In closing, every car I have had so far (4) has all had over 100,000 miles. Some have been bad investments (2) but when buying older cars with high miles, it's a gamble and one has to face that fact when buying a car that is old or has a lot of miles. Just remember to take car of your cars properly and service them regularly. Eventually it might make some school student a good beginner car some day.

Mass air intake reguired replacment at 197,000.

General Comments:

Very reliable car has only been towed once in its life and that's when the starter died.

Almost 400,000k not burning oil, runs great.

1988 Buick LeSabre Limited 3800 V6

Faults:

Got the car from my brother-in-law with 96K on it (now have 110K on it). Trans had been replaced at around 70K. Digital dash has never worked 100% right (gas gauge currently dead). As usual with Buicks, power windows either deathly slow or don't work at all. Door armrests have disintegrated and fallen off front doors. Heater core replaced at 100k miles.

General Comments:

Engine pretty reliable. Trans is suspect. Comfortable, roomy interior. Suspension kind of soft.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, great for road trips, but scores very low for reliability and peace of mind.
