Friendly advice: Keep on top of -

- Coolant changes to curb head gasket problems.

- Transmission fluid and filter changes to ward off major failure.

1989 Buick Regal Custom 2.8 V6

Summary:

One of the best Buick Regals on the American road

Faults:

Interior is cheap, and the interior components weren't made that well.

Replaced transmission around 5,000 miles.

Alternator smoked at 30,000.

Coolant system leaked and transmission leaks at 33,000.

Great on tires; replaced tires at 33,000.

The A/C compressors are junk. I've had a lot of problems with trying to get the A/C to work and blow out ice cool air.

Had the A/C compressor replaced at 38,000.

General Comments:

My Granddad bought this car on March 27, 1989. The car was probably one of the best Buick's he ever bought. The next year he handed the car to my dad, because my granddad could no longer drive a car, due to his type of health problems. The car has still been in our family ever since.

I began driving this car last year. I am 19 years old, and I started driving this car before I took my driver's license exam about a year ago. I took the test with this car, and I practiced with this car. I've loved this car ever since I was young, and I will never replace it with any other car. All the mechanics loved this car; they even drove it on a lot of test drives, because they liked the feel and handling of this car.

It also handles and drives great when you're traveling over 65. It always maintains your speed, the car runs great on gas, and I don't use much mileage or gas when driving far distances from my house.

This car currently has about 40,000 original miles on the speed odometer. My father didn't drive this car much, only on the weekends. I change the oil every winter and summer when inspections are due.

1989 Buick Regal

Summary:

Faithful car

Faults:

The only problem I have had in three years was a tire that exploded on the highway (my fault, because I over-inflated it).

The door handles on the side are weird... I hate them... feel like they are going to fall apart anytime.

The wipers don't stop when you want... they have to give that "extra-wipe" that messes all up... typical eighties car.

The worse thing is the heater system that does not blow on your feet, so while your face is cooking, your feet are still frozen.

General Comments:

I have owned this car for 3 years now. I have had Subaru, Chevy Cavalier, Ford Aerostar, Pontiac Safari, Cadillac Brougham and Dodge Caravan and I got this as a gift from my friend at work for only $300. I needed a temporary car before I could get money together for a new one. I will keep this... it has been by far the best car I have ever owned. My friend took good care of it, but his son misused and got into an accident, maybe that's why the suspensions are noisy and when I drive over a bump it feels like something is gonna fall apart underneath. It starts faithfully even in the frozen New England winters and it never left me stranded. It has a good accelleration, like a sport car and it won't slow down going up-hill. I would buy another one in a heartbeat... if only it would blow some heat on my feet...

1989 Buick Regal Custom 2.8 V6

Summary:

Incredible Dollar Value

Faults:

Fuel tank ruptured at 120,000km.

Brake line blew at 150,000km.

Brake pads replaced at 151,000km.

General Comments:

Buick makes a 'solid', reliable, and luxurious car, at a fair price.

This car has a perfect body and underside - no rust at all.

The interior is amazing, with beyond comfortable seats, lots of head and leg room, easy to reach controls; as well, the carpets and seats haven't faded - they look brand new.

The engine is healthy, the suspension is superb; it handles like there's no tomorrow.

I would trust my life with this car. What an outstanding model! As a result, I'll only buy and drive Buick.
