1990 Buick Regal Custom 3.1

Summary:

A great car for a young driver or a small family

Faults:

Many things went wrong with my Regal. First I had to replace the thermostat (no big deal).

Second I had to replace the front brakes (understandable).

Third I had to replace the tires (old tires, better safe than sorry).

Then I had to replace the front brakes again, and rotors (which were rusted as hell)! The back brakes never seem to get used.

The latest problem was that it ran out of oil and no oil warning light came on. This would not have been a big deal if the car did not spin a bearing at the same time and totally screw up the engine.

General Comments:

If you come up against a Regal at a stop light, do not underestimate this car. Looks like an old persons car but it has some power to it.

Unlike what other people have said, I did not have a problem putting an after market radio system in my car. Plus all of my friends thought it sounded great.

Though it seems small, this car has great leg room in the back. My 6'7" friend never seemed to have a problem sitting in back. It is a little difficult to get back there though.

Though I had problems with my car, I really wish I had it back running like normal. I loved that car and had many memories in my ride.

Hey, I was wondering if you know the 0-60 time or how much horse power it has, I can't find it anywhere. I just bought one from my grandpa and I haven't really been able to drive it because I'm not old enough. So if you know will you please send to Bigry_99@yahoo.com

Thank you, my name is Ryan by the way.

1990 Buick Regal Limited

Summary:

Don't try repairs at home!

Faults:

Electrical everything went to hell. I put a CD player in, followed all the directions (which took forever... horrible engineering by Buick), and the following problems arose due to this:

Power locks died

Power windows on one side of the car died

Overhead lamp died

Warning lights died

The gas gauge is horrible. Take a turn and you go from full to 1/4 tank. Depending on where you sit, you can have either nicely over a half tank of gas or a quarter tank left (this is assuming you're the driver and not lounging heavily to the left or right).

You may notice I had a short lived life with this car. When driving home on I95 one night, the car started to sputter. I got off the highway and the car died. A couple minutes later, a guy didn't notice my blinker lights and ran into me. I might have been out of gas, but the meter said I wasn't even to the warning area and no "you're out of gas" light went on. Good thing this is a large car. The guy wasn't doing more than 50 MPH and the impact literally put the whole trunk into the back seat. Luckily I was alone or anyone in the back would have been dead.

The last problem is the overall design of the car. DO NOT try to modify this car whatsoever, this includes simple things like getting an amplifier installed for a stereo system. Unless you drill a new hole through the firewall or take the engine out to put the wires through an existing hole, there's no safe way to run the wires into the car. I have also never had such a hard time finding a battery in my life. This car is truly designed for older people who don't touch the hood of their car and have a mechanic do everything. HORRIBLE engineering.

General Comments:

Engineering blunder. See what has gone wrong.

VERY comfortable drive. This car was honestly more soft than my bed. I considered sleeping in it one night.

Nice V6 for pickup. Would take on my older Accord V6.

A lot of cargo space which is always nice.

Apparently SOMEONE doesn't know how to install a stereo... I have a JVC in mine and it seems to be FINE!!! So what, you bought one of the bad ones. Every car brand has cars that a few of them out of the hundreds of thousands have problems... Mine is great, go buy a Hyundai or a KIA, then see how you feel.

I think Buicks in general have a problem with the gas guage. I have a '91 Buick Regal Limited 3800 and every time I take a left turn I lose about a quarter tank. Overall it's a nice car though - smooth, and powerful (for a mid-sized, non-sport car) with a 3.8L V6 engine.

Well I just purchased a 90 Regal Custom. The gas gauge does act up, but clean your fuel filter or your injectors and mine worked fine.

Overall I like my Regal. Very strong 3800 and can punch it and burn these new cars. Very smooth ride, the seats are big and comfy, so I recommend this car for people who like old skools.
