Faults:
Door trim at top of drivers door continually slides out and drags against rear door. Tapping back with rubber mallet fixes for a few months.
Heater display replaced at 40,000 miles due to being very dim.
Rack and pinion replaced at 55,000 miles. (I had this same problem with a 1987 Buick Riviera at about 60,000 miles.)
Constant oil leak since about 40,000 miles. Have had pan gasket replaced twice, valve cover gaskets, and the manifold gasket replaced. Determined that the leak is now coming from the head gasket, but have not repaired it yet.
Oil level sensor in pan also replaced, although I think it was damaged during the second replacement of the pan gasket.
Water pump replaced and cooling system flushed at 60,000 miles.
The bearing in one of the supercharger idler pulleys froze and blew apart at 65,000. Replaced both idlers and the tensioner on the supercharger belt system.
There is a clunking noise coming from the rear end that I understand is from some worn-out Teflon bushings. Have not repaired yet.
Extended warranty has paid for fixing almost everything. They are refusing to replace the head gasket for now. Warranty company now says that 1qt/2000 miles is not excessive. They now require 1qt/500 miles before paying for repair. Head gasket replacement will be over $700.
General Comments:
Except for the excessive mechanical problems, I would absolutely love this car. It has great acceleration and is a dream on the interstate. Very comfortable leather seats and plenty of leg room in the back seats.
Due to warranty, oil has been changed every 3000 miles or less.
The CD/Cassette sound system is great.
Will probably trade this car off for a newer Regal just before the extended warranty expires at 90,000 miles.
