1993 Buick Skylark custom V 6
Summary:
I am ready to just burn it up
Faults:
The windows in the front will not let down. The motor mount broke, the car kept running hot. I changed the thermostat, the radiator, and the heater core before I finally got it working. The lights stopped working and I have gotten everything working now except the dash panel and the tail lights. I have changed the bulbs and the fuses and I am really about to be fed up with it. The front driver seat is broken very badly and somehow, water is getting in and settling on the brand new carpet that I have had installed. The transmission is also leaking fluid even after I've had the filter and gasket changed on it as well.
General Comments:
I thought I had bought a pretty decent car because it started out perfect, but now I wish I would have left it at the dealership.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

It just sounds like this poor old car has had a hard life. It needs maintenance to get it back in shape, and once that's done, it ought to be able to give good service for a while. Don't pay any attention to the carpet comment, I don't see anything wrong with trying to keep an old car looking nice. That's a heck of a lot better than just letting it deteriorate into a pile of crap. It sounds like you've already fixed most of the annoying problems, so don't bail out now. Regarding the leaking transmission fluid, make sure that you correctly tighten the pan bolts to the correct torque, in the correct sequence. That's good that you replaced the filter, but when you put the pan back on, if you just tighten them up with a socket to where you think they should be, the gasket will leak because the bolts haven't been tightened correctly. You need to tighten bolts starting at opposite sides/corners of the pan and work you way crisscrossed around the pan perimeter to get the bolts wrist-tight. Then go back with a torque wrench in the same sequence and tighten to the correct torque specification, which you can find in a Hayne's or Chilton's manual.

If you're crazy enough to put new carpet in a 13 year old car, I don't feel the least bit sorry for you.
