1988 Cadillac Brougham D'elegance 5L 307 olds

Summary:

The real AIR FORCE ONE of the Highway

Faults:

Not much! Some stuff you have to change when you're about 100 000 km on a car, the radiator have to be changed. Everything is still running good!

General Comments:

This car is incredible, you feel like the president when you're rolling in a Cadillac Brougham d'elegance 1988. Nothing more comfortable! You're just driving on clouds.

The 307 engine is very reliable, it will always go to destination, it just won't win any race on the road! In fact, the 307 is really weak, but who cares? no hurry to get out of this car! It's a Cadillac!

I love this car, it's huge and it's no plastic.

Finally, the Cadillac brougham 1988 is great for those who likes comfort instead of speed!

1988 Cadillac Brougham 5.0 V8

Summary:

A true American classic

Faults:

My battery posts went out and they had to be replaced.

The front driver seat has begun to show it's age.

The water pump had to be replaced.

The exhaust has developed a hole in it, but I like the way it sounds.

Here and there some light bulbs had to be replaced, but that is not a big deal.

The carburetor is a little sluggish and needs to be replaced.

General Comments:

I can't say enough good things about this car. It has all the original paint and vinyl top it it looks half it's age.

The car is not the fastest thing on the block, but once it gets going it's hard to stop.

I previously drove a 1988 Chevrolet Caprice Classic and it was in bad shape, but it still ran great.

My 1988 Fleetwood is a tank, it weighs over 4,000 pounds and it could hit a deer and you would not feel a thing.

The only thing I can see having problems with is that it does not even have a tape deck, that sucks!

My dad said I couldn't put one in because it would not fit. I think he is feeding me a line of bull cause he wants me to spend my money on other things.

Over all this car is a true American classic, not like those piece of junk Japanese cars that think their bad, but really aren't. I'll take my Caddy over any Honda or Toyota.

God bless Cadillacs and the men and women who drive them.

Cadillacs are awesome. I have yet to meet someone who has actually driven in my car that doesn't love it. I have the exact problems you have here. And I also used to have an 88 Caprice. Mine was a wagon though, so they had the same 307, so now I'm an expert in the 307 department.

You can tell it's a true American classic - try getting over 20mpg!

Who cares about gas mileage when you're driving an American Classic?

And no one in their right mind would expect over 20 MPG in a Cadillac.

And who cares about gas mileage when you are driving a car from 1988. Just think of the money they are saving in insurance costs, license plates, and I would assume they have no car payment. That $30,000 Prius looks a lot less practical now. I personally would take the old Cadillac any day over any model from Toyota.

1988 Cadillac Brougham 307 Olds 5.0 V8

Summary:

Modern Day Land Yacht

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong with this car over the years. One new alternator at 120,000, one new starter solenoid, two-tuneups, a/c recharge service, new rear air shocks, new rear fillers, one new alternator belt, several pairs of wiper blades, and several sets of tires.

General Comments:

If you like the look of old Cadillacs, but either can't afford one or do not know how to take care of one this car is an ideal choice. Rides better than 99% of the cars on the road, has the looks of a car 20 years older. On the other hand not being so old you can get it serviced just about anywhere, it is utterly reliable, parts are cheap, the car is cheap to ensure, drives well. The only two drawbacks are size and gas mileage. 15 around town and 22 on the highway is the norm. But then again a lot of SUVs now struggle to get to that point. Not quite as big as the 70s Cadillacs, but close.

I just bought a used 1988 Cadillac Brougham, very nice looking car, but the trunk won't close whats up?

Does anybody know whats wrong with it or how to close it?

28th Sep 2016, 04:00

Hello, about the truck not closing, it has a self closing feature and the motor that sits on the back of the trunk where the truck lid latches that part needs replacing. I hope this was helpful.
