2004 Cadillac DeVille DHS Northstar

Summary:

My 2004 DeVille is the best driving car I have ever owned

Faults:

The right front window regulator broke. Repaired under warranty.

The left rear window had a short. Repaired under warranty.

I wish Cadillac would take better care in the design of their windows, as my last two Devilles had serious window problems, and that was the only problem.

General Comments:

Our 2004 Cadillac DeVille is the best driving car I have ever owned. My wife refers to it as the "butter car" because it has a firm yet smooth ride. It is exactly what I want in a car - A large quick sedan. With the Northstar engine and transmission we get 30 mpg on the highway doing 60 to 65 mph. We get about 27 mpg if I get a little heavy with my foot or kick it too often to pass. The engine is very responsive and the road feel is very good with the original Michelin Symmetry tires.

We do not have any problem with oil consumption. I use Mobil 1. And, if you read the Cadillac blogs, I do not baby the engine. That may help with ring seating and reducing carbon deposits.

Overall this Cadillac offers a much better ride than my '79 Fleetwood or my '92 DeVille. Workmanship seems to be very good. I was surprised to find that the front hood and rear lower quarter panels were plastic, but I guess that was done to keep the weight down.

All around a great car that delivers what it is meant to deliver.

I agree with the fuel consumption. I am getting 32 on highway and 28 around city. Only major problems I had, from new, is putting new rotors on every 3000 miles. Something wrong with my brakes, that GM can't seem to be able to fix. Rides a bit rough... otherwise an excellent car. I only got 67000 KM on it as of Dec 2008, been in for brake problems at least 7 times... rotors turned couple times each, then replaced. Would never buy another GM.... going Japanese after this one....

Your 79 Fleetwood must have had bad shocks and worn out tires. Those older RWD Cadillacs ride better than the newer ones. I own both so I know.

Summary:

The Cadillac Deville is what a Cadillac should be: powerful, reliable, and comfortable

Faults:

The gas door refused to shut one time. The latch mechanism was off-balance.

General Comments:

This car is amazing. My grandparents bought it to replace their 1999 Deville (which was completely trouble-free for the five or six years they owned it) in 2005. They have had exactly ZERO problems out of this car, and it's now approaching 40,000 miles.

It rides GREAT, is extremely powerful (scarily fast when you really get on it), and gets relatively good gas mileage (mid 20s in the summer time). It's also a great looking car, thanks in part to its nice pearl-white paint color.

I completely agree with your assessment. We, too, replaced a 1999 DeVille with the 2004, and it is a far nicer car. The 1999 was great, but the 04 is a substantial improvement, which we didn't think was possible. We have the pearl white, too, and it is beautiful.

Summary:

I love my black baby. She's a sharp and classy baby!

Faults:

Was recently inspected by the dealership. No problems with the car.

General Comments:

I have been a loyal Cadillac fan since I was a kid, and have been owning these cars since me and my husband got married 42 years ago.

My 2004 Deville DTS, which is in the popular tuxedo black color with the black leather interior, is my pride and joy. I had a 2001 model, which was similar to this one, and loved it too.

As for this one? It is absolutely a joy to drive. On the road, it handles beautifully and swiftly.

Now for the inside of this baby. It is huge!! You can easily fit 4 people in it. The seats are like stiing on your leather couch. All of the controls are mainly easily at hand. The trunk? It is huge as well!! It can swallow lots of stuff.

All in all, this black baby is gorgeous! I definitely plan on keeping this car for a good while longer. My husband and I looked at the 2007 model, and plan on getting that in black, and using this one as our second and third vehicle. No way will I be trading this one in! So if you are in the market for a gorgeous Cadillac Deville DTS like this one, look for a low mileage, and well kept one. These cars are great for road trips, or as luxury family cars. You will fall in love with it!
