1999 Cadillac Escalade 5.7 Vortec

Summary:

An excellent vehicle for the money and very comfortable

Faults:

Fuel pump failed at 163,000 miles. Not really an issue; rather expected with that many miles.

General Comments:

This Escalade is the first Cadillac I have owned, however it is just an upgraded Tahoe, but is extremely comfortable to drive and ride in. Much more comfortable than my wife's new Toyota 4 Runner. Plenty of room, with a quiet, smooth ride.

It does seem a little short of power, even though the engine is still in excellent condition.

There are no oil leaks, and the exterior of the vehicle has held up very well.

I purchased the vehicle from a friend who bought it new, and it has had very good care and shows it.

1999 Cadillac Escalade 5.7 Vortec gas

Summary:

Repairs can add up, all at once!

Faults:

Rear main seal repair - $800.

Front brakes and rotors - $200.

Tie rods and ball joints - $200.

Power steering repair - $350.

Will need to repair the rear differential soon and was quoted around $400-$450.

Gas gauge needs adjusting or resetting $$?

And just recently my gear shifter fell apart when shifting the car. So I'm estimating the cost somewhere around $100-$200.

General Comments:

This car is tough, but at the same time it's a couch on wheels. Comfortable, and has every option you would want on a truck and more. Even though I have not been able to drive it 2 weeks without something going wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if I get 250,000 out of it. It always starts on the first or second crank (battery issue now resolved) and has not left me stranded, except the time I ran out of gas because of the gas gauge not being accurate (middle of winter too, LOL). I feel safe with my family in it, and can't expect much more from a 16 year old car.

I'm the original poster, just giving an update.

I now have 179k, exhaust manifold down pipe cracked, I believe my fuel pump is going because it's giving hard start after the truck is warm, and my CV boot cover just ripped. I got the down pipe welded, but I think I'm going to be looking into selling the Escalade. I know I have to sell it for cheap considering the repairs needed, but it still keeps chugging. It got me through rough winters within the last 2 years, so satisfied for what I have used it for, even considering I had it parked for half a summer (down pipe repair).

1999 Cadillac Escalade 350

Summary:

One of GM's Caddy Division's best decisions

Faults:

Every so often within the last 50000 miles, the car will not start. I climb in, turn the key, the engine turns over and sounds like it will start, but it doesn't. I try it again, and the same thing happens; it sounds like it will start (turns over and fires), but it doesn't. Can anyone out there help me?

General Comments:

The car rides well, corners like a sedan.

The interior is spacious and clean. The leather still looks new.

The steering wheel is beginning to show signs of normal wear on the leather.

There was a small blister that appeared on the dash directly in from of the driver that has grown. The leather (vinyl) has begun to peal and is the size of a quarter.

I have a 99 Cadillac and have owned it for approx 2 years now. I would like to know where I could find this canute valve at? And is anyone else getting vibrations when trying to come to a complete stop? There's a lot of shaking and vibrating generally when going from 45-50 to a complete stop. I am really stumped, I read the Yukon Denali has this problem and it was the slip yoke? Does the caddy have one? Please help!
