1985 Cadillac Seville Touring Suspension 4.1

Summary:

One of the most elegant and styilsh cars ever made; I believe it will be a classic

Faults:

Electronic Climate control module had to be replaced; it was somewhat expensive and still doesn't seem to work quite right. I'll probably have to take it to a dealer ($$$$$)

Windshield wiper control module went out, also an expensive repair.

Tension struts on hood and trunk needed relplacing when I got the car. The dealer said because the hood and trunk are so heavy the struts don't last.

General Comments:

I've had two previous Cadillacs and a Rolls in the luxury car class. This is as comfortable and beautiful car as I've had. I think that this body style is one of the most elegant styles Cadillac has had. On the down side, it's high maintenance, parts are somewhat hard to find and it is also hard to find mechanics who are skilled enough to repair some of the systems.

1985 Cadillac Seville 4.1 Liter Gas

Summary:

A well built stylish car that could have been better with performance added

Faults:

The left hand power mirror control broke.

The sun visors are drooping and cannot be tightened any further.

Dust creeps between the outer lens and the inner lens of both taillights.

The driver's arm rest started to crack.

General Comments:

This is a fabulous car as far as costs of maintenance go. I have put over 10,000 miles on this car and the car still appears new, both inside and out. The 4.1 engine leaves a lot to be desired in the performance category, but it is quiet and hasn't given me any of the problems that other owners of these cars have experienced.

I cannot complain about this Seville at all. It has been dependable to a fault, is extremely comfortable, and will deliver between 21-27 miles per gallon on the highway, and that is with the air conditioning on and blowing cold.

I love this old Bustle back Caddy, and people either love the styling or seem to hate it. If General Motors wouldn't have been caught up in the CAFE mileage wars and had left the Olds 350 engine in these cars, who knows what they would have evolved into.

The styling was unique, the comfort, luxury, and ride were way above most cars of their time, but the performance and reliability wasn't anything to write home about. The 1980-85 Seville always reminded me of the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz... "If I only had a heart!"

I love the styling of this car. You're correct about the HT4100 engine being put in these cars so they can meet CAFE standards. These cars came out as 1980 models and featured a very correct 6 liter (368 cu in.) cast iron Cadillac V8 and were EPA rated at only 15mpg. Who cares about gas mileage when you're driving one of these Sevilles.

Glad to hear these responses. I am about to get a white 85 myself. 4.1L luckily. The diesel attempt that Cadillac ran with seems to have brought some upset based on what I have read so I made sure to avoid that model. I will be sure to fill in on my immediate response etc.

I have a top of the line 85 Seville. What is there to say about a perfect car? She has neo classic lines, floats down the highway, and though no monster when it comes to horse power, has enough to move sedately away from a green light, and more than enough to cruse down major highways. A truly elegant automobile.

1985 Cadillac Seville 4.1

Summary:

Great Car!

Faults:

Plastic around the taillights is cracked from the sun.

General Comments:

This car has been one of the best cars that I have ever owned. It handles fairly well, but tends to sway in sharp fast turns. It has a decent powerhouse and gets fairly decent gas mileage.
