1988 Chevrolet Beretta GT
Summary:
Good Sturdy Car
Faults:
Recently put in a new alternator and did the front brakes before I got my license.
Back breaks squeal when in reverse.
Stalls occasionally when it shifts.
VERY slow pick up when its cold.
Console is falling apart.
General Comments:
I love my car, except for the fact that it sucks gas like my mother's Astro. At only 19 mpg, it's hardly an economy car. It was great to learn to drive it because it's solid as a rock and is really smooth around corners. The paint is almost completely gone, apparently there was a problem with the primer in Chevys for a couple of years. Everyone in my family drives a Chevy and haven't had any major problems with them. It's a little hard to work on since everything seems to be packed underneath the hood, and it could use a little more trunk space.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Excellent review.
I purchased my 88 Beretta in 1987. It was my first new car. I drove the car in the first 4 years on a 160 mile round trip 3 times a week, so the car had 100k before I had it paid for.
The problems that I had with the car were just a few.
1. Starter went out around 80k.
2. A/C went out at 95K, however it was fixed for about $100, not a serious problem.
3. Brakes at 120k.
4. Heater core at 130k.
5. Paint was bad in the first year, had it repainted by dealership for free and I paid again at 85K.
The car's dashboard fell apart early on.
I have to tell you that this car took some heavy driving and never let me down. I let my nephew have the car when he was in high school, and I know a teenager drove the crap out of it and put it through some abuse. He drove the car until he went off to college and the car was returned to me. When I got the car back it had 220K; it was dirty but no worse for the wear. I decided to keep my old Beretta as a second car and for the memories as they were pretty good.
I paid almost 14k for the car, and she lasted me 14 years and so many miles. I was in a car accident in 02, did not seem too bad, but the cost to repair was more than the worth of the auto. I drive an Acura and love it, but still have great memories of my Beretta. They had their problems, however they are great cars. Think 14 almost 15 years of hard driving and so many miles I got my monies worth from this car. Checking out the site as I missed my old ride...
