1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS V6

Summary:

Never again!

Faults:

In the summer of 2002, the transmission had to be repaired. A sun-shield had broken. The cost of the repair was $2,200. The seals around the doors seem old already, causing much wind noise at higher speeds. I've noticed water drops on the driver's side door next to the window controls from time to time. This could explain why not long after I had purchased the blazer the window controls on that side started to fail. At that time the car was under warranty so it was repaired without cost to me. The brakes squeak. I was told by the dealership that this was normal.

General Comments:

This was the first nice car I ever owned. I am very disappointed.

I never would have imaged having to face a repair that large on a newer vehicle. I am now seriously considering getting rid of the car. I'm concerned it will only have more problems.

1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.6L Vortec

Summary:

This is an over sized Yugo

Faults:

At 12 miles, after signing the papers, noticed spot weld dimples in the door.

Had to have hood insulator replaced at 6,000.

3rd brake light broke at 10,000.

New battery at 18,000 and 34,000.

Seat back handle on passenger seat broke off at 28,000 miles.

Replaced the alternator at 30,000 miles.

Had to have supplemental restraint system (Air Bag) repaired at 40,000 miles.

New water pump, heater core, and a/c compressor at 53,000.

General Comments:

I bought this truck because I thought it would be a good family vehicle. After the $29,000 sticker and the 2,500 in a/c and cooling system repairs, this truck just gets more and more expensive.

The latest happening to it now at 54,000 is a ticking noise from one of the output shafts.

I will dump this truck at the next chance I get. This is way to much for me to pay.

I think this truck was built with all the parts that the manufacturer did not want to put into the other trucks.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I also have a 1999 Blazer, and have had similar problems--alternator, a/c compressor, water pump, third brake light, stereo CD problem, ball joint replaced, instrument panel replaced, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

I also own a 1999 Blazer with very similar problems. The fuel gauge quit working at approx 25,000 miles. It was "certified" vehicle so the dealer fixed it, but it took 6 trips to the dealer and 3 rental cars (at their) expense to realize it was the sending unit. They also forgot to bolt the fuel tank straps tight and after 3 weeks of a rattle in the rear end I isolated the problem and tightened them myself. Now I have a sound in the front end that sounds like a bad CV joint or ball joint. Seat lever broke on passenger side just after purchase. Oil leaks on lines to what I suspect is an oil cooler. This vehicle has been nothing but problems from the start. I would like to purchase US made vehicles, but not if they are going to drain my wallet and sanity. Other problem with after market silencer alarm system always going off. I disabled it before one of my neighbors disabled me.

1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 Vortec V6

Summary:

The car is just OK

Faults:

Driver's side door sagging at 42k. The alternator went out after the second year. Battery replaced after two years. Right front wheel bearing went out at 55k, $600.00. Throttle cable sticking causing the gas pedal to stick.

General Comments:

The vehicle has been an OK car. It seems as though it nickle and dimes you to death right when the warranty expires. The problems I have listed are common for the blazer and GM or Friendly Chevrolet in Springfield, IL will do nothing to help.
