2000 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3 V6

Summary:

Great to drive, when it's working correctly

Faults:

Intake gasket failure at 137k miles, replaced myself for 35 bucks. Weekend project, but better than the $500+ the mechanic wanted.

Fuel pump at 149k miles. Started whining bad and losing fuel pressure. Replaced with ACDelco.

Suspension started wearing out at about 145k miles, under normal light duty use.

Rusting out on the passenger side, as well as the rear bumper. Frame is still solid though, as it has been bedlined for rust prevention.

Steering parts starting to wear out as of right now (idler arm, tie rod ends) as well as needing new shocks in the front.

Transmission starting to feel 'squishy', doesn't slip but is starting to get soft.

General Comments:

The Blazer is comfortable, especially on longer freeway trips. The 4.3 V6 has decent power, averages 20 MPG on the highway, but is a total gas hog in the city or with the 4WD engaged in the winter (where I see the MPG drop to as low as 12 MPG).

Lately it has been nickel and diming me to death. I replace one thing, and 2 things get added to my to-do list. Don't get me wrong, this Blazer has served its purpose, and I am very attached to it, but I don't recommend it to people who can't work on it themselves.

Overall, not a bad little truck. For the MPG it gets though, you might as well get a full size pickup. The 4WD is great, the power is so-so, and the reliability is so-so.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3 liter

Summary:

Cool truck, but you could probably do better for reliability

Faults:

I drove this truck from Boston to San Diego in 2004. The gas gauge was broken, but I was already used to this from my 97 Blazer's broken gauge!

Good ride, and reliable at first, but around 85,000 miles my back window button broke. $350 to fix that, with $150 just for the little motor that pops the hatch. The gas gauge was going to be around $800 to fix!

Finally, the transmission gave up, and it was almost $1500 to fix that!

General Comments:

Overall, a fun truck to drive, and really good in the New England snow. Just know that repairs are going to be expensive, due to expensive parts, and the fact that everything is so tightly packed, that usually parts need to be removed to get to the parts that need to be replaced.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer ZR2 4.3

Summary:

Sad! Use to be proud company, now just a cheap import!

Faults:

A lot with the 2000, not the 96.

General Comments:

Had a new 96 Blazer, and loved it. Like they said, like a rock!

So bought 2nd one.. new 2000 ZR2 Blazer; everything listed in this forum by Blazer owners, I have had to replace and repair also with the 2000...

I was curious why did the quality and workmanship go out the window!... So I looked at the failed parts and workman's location... Hmmm, my 96 Blazer was the heartbeat of America!... My 2000 was the heartbeat of China parts... Great Britain Motors... And a hodge podge of other nations...

Ever wonder why they changed from heartbeat of America to like a rock! Because the rocks come from other countries and there's nothing American about it! Was a GM fan till they jumped ship!

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3

Summary:

Awesome!!!

Faults:

Over the years, I have fixed multiple items on the car. Fuel pump, brake pads and rotors, blower motor, window motors, lamps, multifunction switch (blinker arm).

Many items were done under the original warranty up to 100K miles.

General Comments:

With over 245,000 miles on it, it is still the most dependable vehicle I have. No rust or dents. Just a couple of minor scratches on the door panel.

Interior is spotless. Very nice ride. Will continue to buy and drive GM products. Great vehicle to drive!!!

I'm only at 210,000 miles, but you see the similarity. '97 2wd four door.
