General Comments:

This vehicle is perfect and my favorite of all the Blazers I have owned (1995 and 1987).

I am confused by all the negative comments I see here and figure they must have purchased unreliable used vehicles that were beat hard prior to purchase.

My Blazer has all the bells and whistles and literally everything looks and works perfect.

Well, just to pile on, I think we can all agree there are numerous design defects that GM refuses to acknowledge with this year Blazer. Bought my car used - no warranty - so didn't really expect that much help from GM. But you would think some parts they would reduce the price on or comp? The Saturn division is very responsive to owners, why not Chevy?

Driver's side door - on my third set of door pins. None of the other doors have ever been a problem, and they do get used since this Blazer is the kids' ride to school.

Noises - got a doozey under the dash near the drivers side. Have had the dash torn apart several times, door hinges pulled, hood hinge pulled, etc. Now I just live with it.

GM Stereo - first one speaker went, then a second, then the whole radio. Aftermarket radio took care of that.

Serpentine belt tensioner - went at 40k miles.

Gas gauge - ya, did the dance everyone experiences about 3 months ago. However, let that be a warning to people - when your gauge goes the fuel pump isn't far behind since they're all one unit. My dealer wanted $1500 to pull the tank and replace the unit - about a 1/3 of the current blue book value. Another DIY project.

Vibration - not knowing it was a design flaw at first, wasted money on new shocks, rebalancing tires, etc. Then learned it's on tons of Blazers so live with it.

Heater - quit working. Went to check it out, and found the whole cooling system a gummy mess at 70k miles. Never saw anything like it before. Took forever to flush everything out. I chalked it up to a prior owner dumping something in the fluid, until I learned others have the same issue. One weird antifreeze these must have originally come with.

Roof rack - ya, mine is peeled bare now.

General Comments:

All the negatives aside, this has been a comfortable multipurpose family vehicle.

The engine itself is very strong and responsive, and has given me very few problems.

In regards to your heater not working, I'd say it was the coolant GM uses. They use Dexcool in their engines, which you can tell because the stuff is red. It seems that after a few years, it will clog small passages. I ran it in my non-GM truck for three years and boy was it a mess to clean up afte I changed to a plain conventional radiator fluid. I'd suggest flushing the heck out of your coolant system and replacing it with plain radiator fluid. That will solve the problem.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS

Blazer buyers beware!

Faults:

Both seats broke (will not recline) within six weeks, not covered under warranty.

Ball joints replaced after a 3,000 mile trip. Thank God, the car collapsed the evening we returned just outside my drive while waiting for a stop. We could have been killed.

Rotors, twice

Engine became loose

Brakes, often more, but I need to look in the stuffed glove compartment for receipts

Over $4,000 in repairs!

I would buy another one again, don't listen to everyone elses comments, always do research

Nothing has Gone wrong with the car.

Oil change.

Transmission filter.

I love my blazer.

I have had No major problems with it.

I can rely on the car completely.

You must be the only Blazer owner who has never had anything go wrong with it.

In less than 5 years, I have had to replace the Fuel Sending Unit ($300 part), brake pads 4 times, rotors twice, calipers once, serpentine belt 3 times, alternator once, driver side door power window switch twice, front shocks three times... the list is endless.

Now it is being tested for a bad EGR valve. Parts I still need to replace include the rear window wiper motor, the front passenger seat release handle, the door pins to the driver's door, and I really need to locate an entire interior door panel for the driver's door, as mine has never been the same since replacing the first power window switch, and the plastic area by the handle is now cracked.

The check engine light comes on after I drive it on the highway for any length of time and use the cruise control. This may be due to the possibly bad EGR valve not shutting back off. As it stands, it's not a comforting feeling to be driving a vehicle and have the check engine light come on for any reason. I have had the error code read, and it mentions the emissions, but doesn't get any more specific than that.

I have the vehicle serviced regularly. I have even gone so far as to have the throttle body professionally cleaned, because I was told by the mechanic that this would help the problems I was having with the engine not idling properly, and surging and stalling at various times. I have had a tune up done on it. It used to be if an engine was not running up to snuff, a tune up would solve a lot of that. Not with this vehicle.

I bought this vehicle used with 51,000 miles on it, and I have put less than 50,000 miles on it in five years. I don't drive it off road. I use it for mainly city driving, and I am afraid to take it out on the highway anymore with the problems it has.

It is now paid off, and I will once again be saving up for a nice down payment to trade this piece of garbage in for something new. It certainly won't be a GM product, after this ownership experience. That is a shame, since I do qualify for GM employee discount.

After going through all of what I have, and paying so much money in repairs, I feel I no longer owe any kind of loyalty to GM.

Would you possibly consider trading my vehicle for yours, since yours seems to be the one perfect Blazer that was ever made?

99 Blazer, second owner, 139,000 km.

Had it for a year. No problems at all.

Looks good, runs good, performs well.

5 spd standard is fun, lots of torque and has been through almost everything without getting stuck. Starts in -46 weather not being plugged in. Nothing but good has come with my Blazer.

Hmm, maybe treat it well and do regular maintenance, and if you treat it good, it will treat you the same.

He bought it used and has only put 7,000 miles on it. I would sure hope nothing would have gone wrong with it from the time of purchase. Now that it is 3 years later, I would be curious to hear about how it is holding up (assuming it still runs).
