2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS Vortek V6

Faults:

All 4 ball joints replaced at 40k miles.

Complete brake job at 45k miles.

Exhaust manifold replaced at 60k miles.

Replaced heater core at 60k miles.

Above was done under warranty.

Ball joints at 75k miles.

Complete brake job at 70k miles.

Idler arm at 105k miles.

Cruise broke at 60k miles.

There are many more things that I have not listed that went bad with the truck, that are listed in other comments.

Now at 109k miles, it needs ball joints, front and rear brakes, and the tranny is going bad.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3L V6

Summary:

Total rip-off for people expecting a truck/SUV that will last and is reliable

Faults:

The Isuzu Rodeo we owned before was slowly dying and we needed another vehicle fast. I found a 2000 Blazer LS 4x4 with 117,000 miles on it and the price was good, so I went for it.

So far I have had to have the intake manifold gasket replaced for $675.00.

I had to flush out the heater core myself AFTER the entire cooling system had already been flushed.

The door hinge pins are shot, but I have no intention to replace them.

Replaced rear brake pads as soon as we bought it.

The CD player just started making a humming noise.

The power mirrors don't work.

Both rubber bump stops in the front need to be replaced.

We slid off the road and into the grass, so we need to get an alignment done, but they are telling me that it needs a new idler arm due to the slide. I had owned a 1990 Honda CRX in 2005 and I slid it off the road twice (raining and went around the turn too fast, those CRX's don't weigh anything) and it had nothing wrong with it. Not sure how a truck this big could receive front end damage like that from just sliding through the grass.

The rear end also wiggles just slightly once you get up to 65MPH, but I think that the camber/caster may be out of whack.

Both driver and passenger reclining handles were broken off when we bought the truck. I have been told that this is common.

The right turn signal blinks faster than the left sometimes, even though no bulbs are blown.

The interior lights don't turn on and off as they should.

The interior drivers door panel has five of the nine plastic pins popped out on it, and causes the window to jam sometimes.

General Comments:

So far with the exception of the intake manifold gasket, I haven't had to spend tons of money on this truck.

It has good acceleration and lots of power.

I will never buy another GM vehicle. This Blazer should not have these kinds of problems going wrong with such little mileage. I guess that's why the previous owner wanted to get rid of it. Wish I would have known, but now that I do I will never buy another one.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3

Summary:

Sadly disappointed

Faults:

I too have fallen victim to the "like a Rock" promotion. The vehicle seemed as if it had a tire out of balance when I purchased it used at 38,000 miles. It turned out to be that both front wheel bearings were shot.

In addition, I had to replace the upper ball-joints, alternator, rear differential cover, rear brake calipers, intake manifold gasket, rear axle seal, front differential seal and the emergency brake line all before 52,000 miles. Since then numerous other components have failed.

This among others is the reason GM is in need of a government bailout.

General Comments:

The Blazer looks nice. It has sufficient power, however the cons out-way any pros.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3L V6

Summary:

Satisfying

Faults:

2000 Blazer problems:

Crazy about those seat recline levers, they both broke (I have the 2 door model) within a week of each other, I'm stuck in a reclined position on the driver side, vise grips worked for a bit but that's out now.

Just had to replace fuel pump. Oh to all of you who are experiencing the fuel gage jumping or malfunctioning, it's because your fuel pump is going, when I replaced it the gage worked fine (got gouged on the repair though, 1,050$)

Diagnostic check revealed idler arm needs replacement, haven't done that yet.

Went through a lot of tires, probably due to an alignment problem (in all fairness I rear ended someone).

Currently leaking oil (@ 135,000 miles).

General Comments:

Purchased my 2000 Blazer in 02' with 50,000 miles on it.

I hadn't had any expensive repairs (& even rear ended someone) til recently getting gouged for $1050 to replace the fuel pump (didn't shop around 1st). While there they told me I should replace the idler arm.

To all who are experiencing gas gauge problems: It's your fuel pump about to go on you, once they replaced the fuel pump my gas gauge worked fine, when before it used to jump around, so if that's happening to you, get ready to replace the fuel pump.

Other than that it's been a joy to drive (I've beaten cars off the line at stoplights) & if you buy parts from junkyards or on eBay, then just have the labor done, you shouldn't have to spend all that much to keep this vehicle up.. I've taken it from Florida to NY & back twice & no problems. I've had the other small things like the seat levers breaking & door leaking rain in, & the paint on the luggage racks peeling, but that doesn't bother me.
