1983 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta LT 2.8L

Summary:

Slow, bad gas mileage, but smooth ride and a nice cruising car

Faults:

A lot of things have gone wrong, but nothing major yet, just the lack of a good tune up.

Front brake line just blew up on me at 205,500 miles.

Transmission is starting to kick in and out of third gear really bad.

Rear end clucks when trying to go sideways on pavement.

Motor blows out a lot of blue smoke, but no rod knocks yet.

Rust is starting to get bad (fixed most of it).

When I first got the car, the passenger side window motor was locked up and the power locks did not work, but I converted to non power doors.

General Comments:

The car is very slow, but still gets up and goes for being a small motor in a big car, and having over 200,000 miles and 23+ years of abuse.

But the thing I like most about the car is it handles good and is comfortable

1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.0 LU5

Summary:

Great looking car, GM should have done better Performance wise with the LU5

Faults:

New Valve Covers and Gaskets, Replaced Muffler system Headers Back with BBK Headers, 3" Flow master and pipes, MSD Coil, 8mm Taylor Wires. More Mods to come, but nothing serious wrong mechanically.

General Comments:

I really enjoy my Camaro. Although the LU5 Motor was not as fast as the motors today, But It has potential. I plan to do some modifications besides the ones I've already done, but the condition of my car would be an 8 out of ten, and is 90% original. I personally would prefer the 350, but I am very happy with this one. It is black in color, with silver rockers, along with the orange/red decal along with it. I own a 1996 Z28 as well, so I get the power I want from the LT1. well, Thank you for reading my review, and wish you luck with your Camaro.

1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.0L H.O

Summary:

This car is awesome, and very fast, but for experienced drivers, not recommended as a first car

Faults:

My clutch went out in the mid summer and I had it replaced, and OEM clutches seem to be hard to find for these cars so an aftermarket clutch was installed.

The interior wears normal for a 22 year old vehicle, but in all is still in good condition.

I replaced the 4 barrel carburetor as well because the one on the car at the time was just worn out overtime.

General Comments:

This car is awesome especially for a 22 year old vehicle and its power is awesome.

This car handles better than my 1996 grand am.

The car is especially Fast, and I have beaten quite a few imports and newer mustangs with this car with ease.

The interior of the car is great if your young, but older people seem to have a hard time getting in and out of the vehicle.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Well, I'd just like to add a comment to the one above, if anything for the sake of the Camaro and not the driver's claims.

The 1982 Camaro Z28 used a Chevrolet LG4 motor, which as we all know isn't the most powerful engine in existance, producing around 150hp at most. But, the thing the Camaro did have was torque - and quite a lot of it. 240lb/ft at just 2000rpm is far better than anyone's Civic will achieve, and so yes.. the Camaro WILL beat off most imports (Apart from obviously the Supra, Skyline etc).

I have a 82 camaro crossfire injection and I've out ran a mustang or 2 in my day it's a great car.

1982 Camaros are really slow. I don't think one can beat a new 4.6 or even an older 5.0 Mustang unless you have nitrous of at least 150 horse. Japanese cars are getting really fast now days as well. Anything with a turbo is a rocket anymore. You should try to race one of those Subaru WRX STi's with your 82 Camaro. They only have 300 horsepower and go 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

I had a 83 Z28, and I got beat by a Ford Taurus - it was very embarrassing. I got it up to 110 on the freeway and it felt good, but off the line it was a dog.
