1986 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe 2.8 F.I. V6

Summary:

A 185,000 miles classic

Faults:

Heavy driver's side door is a problem to close.

The dashboard is cracked and driver side seat is a little torn, but easy to replace.

General Comments:

Since I bought it, I have no problems with it mechanically.

For 185,000 miles car, she drives better than newer cars I have bought in the past.

The body is in solid shape with no rust (Florida car), has tint windows, CD player, chrome racing wheels, new tires, fun to drive and for $750.00 it was the best buy I've made in a long time.

I had a 2.8 L MPFI with 250k miles on its original long block and automatic transmission. It was my first new car at 22 miles and only mode of transportation for 12 years until that terrible day of the accident, which permanently removed my "Sporty" from service. I was emotionally hurt.

Throughout its service, the followings were replaced: muffler, catalytic converter, ignition module, 3 alternators, driver door hinge's bushing, driver seat, radiator fan relay, A/C accumulator and the overdrive lock-up solenoid.

1986 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta 5.0 / 305

Summary:

Bad ass

Faults:

Not really any problems since I got it, but I've replaced a lot of stuff just to make it better.

Since I've got it, I've replaced the radiator, headers, exhaust (3 inch), 4 barrel carburetor, rebuilt the transmission, B&M shift kit, center line performance rims, 2 side fenders, hood. I put some copper gaskets in the headers because I had an exhaust leak, so replaced them with copper so I only have to tighten them.

But other that, I really haven't had any problem except for the interior, because that really sucks. Seats are torn up, and the dash is kind of cracked. We took out all the air conditioning equipment, for less weight.

General Comments:

Overall, I think this car is bad ass. It's my favorite and I've never had another car. I've taken 5.0 GTs, Grand Prix GTPs, Integras, and a lot of other cars. But I've also lost too.

Race a 5.0 stang with a half decent driver and you will tell me who has the faster car.

Obviously, you don't know your grammar very well, and I guess this is why you like "stangs". I'm sorry. When you get educated you will realize that a stang is a poorly designed, horrible handling, pathetic waste of money. I'm sorry that you own one. How many ladies has your family stang attracted? Grandma?

The weight difference plays a big part. The camaro is a big car.

I think the 305 TBI and TPI Camaro had something like 2.73 gearing which made it slow on the 1/4 mile and 0-60. However, did your 5.0 Mustang get 27 mpg on the highway?

27th Feb 2007, 19:20

Actually BOTH of my 5.0 Mustangs ('88 and '90) averaged 27-28 MPG on the highway... Thanks for asking.

My 1986 Z28, not a 305 mind you, target master 350 eats up most 5.0s. it has a four speed auto with a mean shift kit, stock gears, Flowmaster exhaust, cammed up.

80's 5.0 Mustangs might be pretty fast, but they've got nothing else. They're not nice looking cars; small, boxy, plain ugly.

1986 Chevrolet Camaro berlinetta 3.4L miti-port V6

Summary:

A great ride. the " Artax Z/86"

Faults:

Factory radio malfunctioned, has sinced been replaced with a CD player.

Front wheel bearing are worn out.

Original 2.8 V6 crapped out, but will be replaced with a NEW 3.4L V6, ordered from GM.

Passenger side door lock doesn't work.

T-top seals have been replaced recently.

General Comments:

For a 17 year old sports car, it is in suprisingly good condition. The dash isn't cracked, the seats are like new, the lining hasn't fallen or sagged. It is like a brand new car. Even the cruise control still works! Who ever had this car before me must have taken damn good care of it. It is all original, even the factory rims still look good!

In those days, my cassette/radio chewed up cassette tapes as fast as I inserted them.

I had a 2.8 Liter that lasted 210,000 miles before I sold the entire car. It’s a better engine than the 3.4 Liter: I rebuilt more 3.4L than any six cylinders. You should have rebuilt the original engine or replaced it with the same size.
