1988 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5.7 Tuned Port Injection

Summary:

An excellent, loud, very cool and fast ride that is worth every penny

Faults:

Heater Core exploded around 145,000 miles. Lots of tools, two guys, and an afternoon.

Fuel Pump beginning to show signs of failure.

The 1988 computer had some trouble with the intake modification I performed on the car. It seems that an increased cold air flow upset the O2 sensor, which periodically triggered the check engine light.

General Comments:

The 5.7 liter 350 with the stock 700R4 transmission, on 3.73 Borg Warner gears makes for a very fun and very fast ride.

One of the meanest looking sets of decals and stripes.

Has had lambskin seat covers on since mid 1990's, so seats and general interior are perfect.

I couldn't be any happier with the car, except that the passenger side seat is a little uncomfortable. (due to raised passenger side floor ride height).

1988 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe 5.7 350

Summary:

I owned an import for six years, before my Camaro, and I will never look at an import ever again

Faults:

Flat tire when I first got the car. Thank god the spare was still there!

Shocks were shot.

Replaced spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor.

I had parked next to a Mustang. I like Mustangs and all, but they sat next to each other over night, and come morning, the Mustang wouldn't start. Later that day, I left in my car, and the owner of the car tried to start it about an hour later, and it ran fine. Well two days, later I parked next to a Corvette and my car wouldn't start, the Corvette left, and my car still wouldn't start, my car was out of fuel, no joke.

General Comments:

My Camaro is very fast and I get 23 MPG, thanks to the TBI.

I am 6' foot 3", and I like getting in and out only when t-tops are off.

T-tops do not leak.

I have the original black interior, I am a mechanic, and does this help!

There is 288,458 miles on this car, the previous owner put a new 5.7L 350 in the car at 98,000 miles, as the V6 wasn't powerful enough.

I have done nothing to the car, besides new tires, shocks, oil changes, tranny fluid/filter changes, rear end fluid change, and put Sea-foam in the car. If your Camaro isn't doing good, look up Sea-foam, it removes all the carbon build-up through the whole engine, and removes sludge out of oil passages. It's an awesome product. That's why my car has so many miles and is still new!

I need a new fuel filter.

I am getting rear louvers. They are in the mail.

I have the Iroc-Z tail lights.

The previous owner put on a new exhaust with the 350.

I don't beat my car to the ground, I respect it, and respects me back.

1988 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe 2.8L V6

Summary:

Slow for a Camaro, but will last

Faults:

Engine blew at 120000 (caused by human error).

Transmission blew at 170000.

A/C went out at 170000.

Master Brake control at 160000.

Fan went out at 180000.

Roof Carpet was hanging when I got it.

Seats were worn when I got it.

Fuel pump went out at 200000.

Paint began to ware in 1999.

General Comments:

It has hold up well for an older vehicle.

The engine is very slow.

However, it holds up very well.

I floor it every where I go and it keeps putting out.

My mother ran it with out oil for 150 miles before the engine blew.

I put 90000 hard miles on it since and it still puts out.

I have an 88 Camaro and it's a beautiful car... Gets me from A to B everyday... I've never had a major problem with it... And to make it fast - just put a turbo on it... And you've got a beast... For a V6...

Joker.
