1994 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4L V6
Summary:
Reliable, cheap transportation with OK mileage
Faults:
There is an extremely light leak in the head gasket. So light that it doesn't even drip onto the ground. When I last changed the oil, I let it go about 4,000 miles, and when full of oil the engine has 4 pints of oil, but when I drained it I had 2.5-2.8 pints. So it burns and leaks a little I guess, but not bad enough to overheat.
At about 147,000, I was driving and the engine started smoking, but no over heating. I took it into my mechanic and apparently my oil pressure switch had busted, and it was leaking onto my exhaust, and that was the cause of the smoking; that ended up only being $75 dollars, parts and labor.
Then I let my brake pads really low, and so I had to replace those, and now I think I need to get my rotors turned, because my wheel shakes when I brake hard from like 95mph-55mph or 0.
Also the entire time I've owned the car, there has been an odd clattering noise, sometimes when I accelerate. But my cylinder pressure is good, and the transmission is in decent condition.
When I'm stopped at stop lights, I think the transmission is still somewhat engaged, so pop it into neutral, because I think it's probably more efficient.
General Comments:
The transmission lags a bit when I stomp on it. I would rather have gotten the manual version, but I got this car for 1800, in almost mint condition, so no complaints here.
It tops out at 110MPH, limited. It handles real well for being as heavy as it is.
The paint has lasted quite well, although it was under a cover for 2 years.
The one thing I don't like is the mileage. EPA it's SUPPOSED to get 21 city and 29 highway. But the best I've ever gotten is like 23.8, and the worst is 17.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
