2002 Chevrolet Camaro

Summary:

Size-Style-Appeal-Fun...All in one package!

Faults:

Steering Column makes a horrendous "groaning noise", when I turn it, to make a turn.

It first occurred as a "one-time" fluke noise and then shortly proceeded to become a more-often heard noise.

After taking it to the dealer initially, I put up with the "ridicule" from the service manager and then I involved the general manager in this problem with the car.

Finally, the technicians (6 0f them) heard the "noise" but could not identify it.

After four months and six major parts being replaced, and my doing w/o the car for 23 days, I am in arbitration with GM about declaring the car a lemon.

The steering column still makes the "groaning" noise and at times, will do it by turning it to the left as well as to the right, before moving the car in that designated direction.

General Comments:

I had a '95 Mystic Teal Camaro, that after being in the shop and their not being able to fix it, was declared a "lemon". I then switched into a Teal '95 Camaro, which I drove only on occasion. I sold it to my daughter, after owning it for four years and at 30K, it was a good buy for her.

She proceeded over the next year to have all sorts of mechanical and electrical problems with it.

It was a "piece of junk" when we traded it in, in 2001.

I had waited a long time, before venturing out to buy another Camaro and was very EXCITED about getting.

But, now after such a short time of ownership, I don't think that I will be keeping the car because of GM's inability to find the problem. Sorry to say!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Mine has the same exact problem. I though it was power steering related, but everything looks OK. Still can't figure out why it's making the noise. Good luck..

Summary:

I wish I had not bought this car

Faults:

The radio has a lot of static.

You can "bump" the power windows and the radio will either clear up or get worse.

You can feel and hear air coming in through the passenger side door.

The air conditioner doesn't blow steadily.

When the air conditioner loses pressure, the headlights dim slightly.

The passenger side window leaks when going through a car wash and water is sprayed directly at the top of the window.

General Comments:

This car looks beautiful. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. The inside is comfortable and classy.

No room in trunk.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I agree with your statement at the beginning of your review when you said you wish you would've never bought the car. Try my situation now. I've had my piece of crap 6-cylinder Camaro for literally 5 and a half years now, and I'm just counting the days 'till I can finally afford another car any month now.

First off, my radio has stopped working ever since I deliberately unscrewed the attenna in the back because I didn't like the way it looked. My Jensen CD player works wonders though, as I always only listen to CDs in the car. As as far as your radio having static, I never noticed static on the radio when had it back in 2003. "Bumping" the windows and radio?. I don't get it.

As for the air-conditioner not blowing steadily, I've never noticed that problem, but I had always noticed the problem of the lights dimming for a second when I suddenly turn the AC on, so that part I can understand. And yes, I have noticed in fact that both windows do slightly leak in a car wash, at least in one of those car washes where you pay $2 and you spray the car yourself with a high-powered nozzle.

There is very little room in the trunk, especially when compared to the Dodge Stratus or any sedan out there. I think little trunk room is one of the things that personifies a sports car as a sports car. I guess they could make it more roomy, but it's like tighter suspension for example, they must pick up every bump in the road when you drive, whereas the Cadillac is much smoother, the same as their trunks being so small, same parallel.

And as for the the inside of it being comfortable, I wouldn't give the Camaro that much credit. (Don't know about those old I-ROCZs, but I bet they are more comfortable and plan on getting one sometime). If you're in the passenger seat, there's little leg room. And whether you're in the driver's or passenger seat, it's uncomfortable. The seating is way too low and it's uncomfortable getting out of the car since it's like trying to get up off a couch when the legs are cut off. You're too low to the ground, so it's uncomfortable and the seating is always uncomfortable, no matter how you adjust it, and no matter how you adjust the steering wheel. Even the 2005 Dodge Stratus (drove it as a rental car for a week one time) is much more comfortable than the Camaro.
