1983 Chevrolet Caprice CL 5.0 305 V8

Summary:

The Caprice is a Classic, what more can one say

Faults:

Radiator went out in 1998.

Starter & Alternator replaced in 1999.

Heater Core replaced in 2001.

Replaced hoses to A/C unit in 2001, no longer lose freon.

Major repairs have not been too much of a issue. General maintenance & tune-ups have kept my Caprice running strong.

General Comments:

This car has the most interior room of any car I have driven. The comfort factor is a 10+, you can drive forever in this car and not get tired.

For the smaller 305 engine, there is more than enough power to accelerate the size & weight of such a large car.

I learned to drive my Uncle's 79 Caprice Sedan, and was honored to be the caretaker of his 1983 Caprice Sedan after his passing in 1996.

I love the Caprice so much I bought a 1973 Caprice Coupe in November 2002. And also purchased a 1991 Caprice Wagon in February 2003.

Just wish Chevrolet would get their heads on straight & send the Caprice back to the States. The Middle East & Australia should not be the only ones to be able to obtain a new Caprice.

Just thought I might let you know, the chev Caprice is not available in Australia, and as to my knowledge has never been available here.

They might have been sold here in the 70's, but I suspect not, as nearly every caprice on Australian roads (and there are very very few) is still a left hand drive.

Cheers.

1983 Chevrolet Caprice 4 door sedan 5.0 liter V8 305

Summary:

A land yacht that sucks gas like crazy, but can be very dependable

Faults:

Since I've owned the car, everything has fallen apart or had to be fixed.

I've had to replace a clock.

The trunk started leaking.

The driver's side floorboard rotted out.

The back brakes and wheel cylinders had to be replaced.

The rotor and distributor cap had to be replaced, along with spark plug wires.

The stabilizer bar clamps had to be replaced.

The suspension sucks. One spring is really worn out.

All of this happened in about six months.

General Comments:

I love the car because it's my first car. I stuck myself in the big gray boat because I felt safe in it. I would buy another one if I could find a good one, unlike mine. I don't think the previous owner took very good care of the car.
