1991 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon 5.0L V8

Summary:

Safe, reliable, and it's a Frankenstien mobile!

Faults:

The car needed general maintenance when I bought it.

The doors squeak from not being opened in so many years.

Changed plugs.

Had rusted fuel line that leaked.

Had to change fuel pump, which was my fault from cranking on empty tank of fuel, and changed 02 sensor.

Car has miscellaneous dents and scratches.

Overall it's a very reliable vehicle and easy to work on.

General Comments:

The car was a handicapped modified vehicle with a wheelchair lift on the roof, it was like a rocket launcher for this tank. Took that off the roof along with the racks and used bondo over every crevice and dent. Sanded the car down and primer sprayed it. Cut all the exhaust off and tinted the windows. Now it's a beast.

The car floats across the road like you're in the water. Feels like a very safe vehicle. If someone were to hit me, including trucks, I think the truck would be in worse shape.

Not only can you fit 9 people in it, but you can fold the rear seat down and use it as a huge storage area. You can also carry a drunk friend in the rear seat facing in the backward position waving at traffic behind you.

The funnest part of all, it is the most ridiculous looking vehicle that you get many people commenting or having to take a peek. The best comment I heard yet was from a child walking with his grandmother that I overhead say, "That car is yucky!".

1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 5.0L

Summary:

Good and Safe daily driver

Faults:

The TCC lockup started to fail, causing the transmission to be locked up in all gears. This caused the engine to run rough. I removed the TCC connector until the weather warms up to replace. The 305 burns a little oil - bad valve seals. I check it every two weeks and add as required.

General Comments:

I bought this car with only 68k miles on the clock for my wife to drive as her daily - I've heard some good things about the reliability of b-bodys and wanted a safe car for my family. This car can haul all of our luggage, our son, my wife and my own tall body - and there is still plenty of room.

Performance with the 305 is not bad - but this is no performance car. Someday I may throw in a 350/383 - but I know mileage would suffer. If I bought another Caprice, I would look for the 5.7L LT1 engine.

Parts for replacement are cheap in comparison to the Hondas I have owned.

With the deep blue color, performance tires and 9C1 wheels - it gets some looks. This Caprice has temporarily been mistaken as a police cruiser. The sheer size of this car keeps tailgaters and other bad drivers far away.

1991 Chevrolet Caprice 5.0

Faults:

Brakes front and rear replaced at 110,000 miles.

All 4 shocks replaced at 110,000 miles.

Frame had to be re-welded on the drivers side due to a 6 inch crack.

General Comments:

I nicknamed this car the Enterprise-A mainly because every time I turned the key it was ready to go.

Never had an issue with mileage. In fact it actually hit 27 mpg once on a long trip.

1991 Chevrolet Caprice 350 police interceptor

Summary:

A muscle car in disguise

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The car is an ex cop car so the suspension is performance grade A indeed. It has full power and can keep up with the competitive Buick Roadmasters. The brakes are of note. I enjoy the roomy interior and the "big boss man feel" I truly believe these cars broke the mold in todays classic history making of vehicles. I wouldn't hesitate to keep a corvette or a mustang in the dust. This car is sleek and stealthy.
