1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 5.7L 350cid

Summary:

Poor mans Impala SS

Faults:

The brakes squeak a lot even though they are pretty new.

Transmission shifts harsh at high speeds.

A lot of body roll around the corners because of worn out sway bar.

The truck tires it requires make a lot of noise around the corners and ride really harsh.

Overall very reliable.

General Comments:

This car is whip quick with its eight cylinder engine that could kill a Mustang anytime.

Gas usage is bad. the car gets 15 miles per gallon when pushed and maybe 24 in good conditions.

The cops who used to drive these babies love to look at my Caprice and dream of driving one again.

1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 4.3V8 (L99)

Summary:

An embarassment to the name Caprice

Faults:

The Caprice is a well built, reliable car. No repairs were required (other than regular maintenance) during the short time I owned the car.

General Comments:

The round style 1991-96 Caprice was an embarassment and insult to the name Caprice. The round, bulbous body made parking and maneuvering a chore. The enormous dashboard made the car seem 10 times larger than it was. The ride was to soft and squishy to actually be comfortable. Dangerously sloppy handling. The tiny V8 gave mediocre performance and terrible gas mileage. The digital speedometer was impossible to read with the lights on during the day. My 1989 Caprice was faster, handled better, gave better mileage and was much easier to operate. Chevy ruined the Caprice name with these "Bubble cars." Try to find a low mileage 1977-90 model for a great driving experience.

I agree the bathtub design caprices are a little ugly and to have the little 4.3 liter pull a 4k pound car is hilarious. I am a proud owner of a 95 Caprice with the 5.7L engine, with that engine the car is a rocket. I also prefer the looks of the 80-90 body style as I do own two of them.

1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Wagon 5.7 355 V8

Summary:

It could out do my 1992 Viper! (modified)

Faults:

Last year the digital speedometer display went out costing me $300.

The rear hydraulic shocks leveling system motor wore out costing me around $600 to fix with used parts.

General Comments:

I bought this car new, stripped with absolutely no options, and only one thing in mind-racing. Once I got the car, the hood, doors, and roof were replaced with fiberglass. Then a custom-made performance chip ($2300) was installed, increasing performance about 15-25%. The rear tires were replaced with Good-Year racing slicks. The lights, seats, Am/Fm radio, climate control, windows-replaced with Plexiglas, horn, wipers, carpet, door handles, and some power accessories were all removed to lighten the car. The original transmission was left in the car, and the engine received a blower, and supercharger. The stock exhaust was replaced by straight pipes.

The car can top out approx. 155+ and can cruise to 60mph in 5 seconds with a quarter mile in the low 12's.

Who said wagons were for the Brady Bunch? Because this one is damn fast!

Most Excellently written, however, you state the engine, is a 5.7lt.,355cubic inch, V-8,which basic engine math tells us that a 5.7lt. engine would be a 350 cubic inch engine, Automotive know-how also tells me that the 355 cubic inch engine was not in fact, an option on your car. Good Day.

1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9C1 5.7L

Summary:

Best bang-for-the-buck 4-door sedan in America

Faults:

After purchase, I immediately replaced all the brake pads and front brake rotors.

The interior blower fan motor was replaced upon purchase.

A very small oil leak occurs after high speeds due to the oil filter adapter seal needing replacement. However, my driveway is extremely clean and drip free.

General Comments:

No other car can provide as much combination of performance, handling, utility, comfort, safety, and reliability in such an affordable package.

The car is strong and safe. It has front and rear crumple zones (that I witnessed in a salvage yard), safety cage, 1997 side impact standards, and dual airbags.

Steering and handling are seriously quick and precise. It is difficult to believe that it is a descendent of a traditional American body-on-frame automobile.

Minimal body lean, even on fast corners.

Brakes on a dime with 4-wheel disc anti lock brakes.

Make no mistake, this is a fast car regardless of weight and size.

Because of some cheap interior plastic parts, expect some squeaks. However, I have eliminated them with some minor modifications.

The seats are firm and decent in front, and very comfortable in the back.

All weatherstrip seals have held up extremely well.

My suspension will need some maintenance, but nothing abnormal or major. I am contemplating shocks, and tie rods.

The headlights are probably the weakest link. Chevy has an export option that remedies it for a price.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I have two 1995 9C1's (the best year IMHO).

One is automatic, the other has the T56 six speed with 4.10 gears.

Both cars are awesome!

Both require standard maintenance, but give so much back - many smiles per mile...

The 1995 Caprice 9C1 represents years of B-Body refinement. GM had done a good thing with these cars. Too bad, they gave it the axe...
