1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.8

Summary:

If you have one, keep it!

Faults:

Well, when I got the car, it had a computer problem. I replaced it.

Then the transmission went, fixed.

My most recent "project" is rebuilding the front end after Bambi decided it was too nice looking!

General Comments:

For the money it's a great car. I have no real problems with it.

Almost 200,000 miles, and it doesn't tap or leak/burn any oil!

The car is fast; not Camaro fast, but with the right work it will smoke a few imports.

The only thing I don't like is my "star wars" gauge cluster.

1989 Chevrolet Cavalier z24 2.8 multi-port fuel injection

Summary:

I love this car and 350000 miles is very possible

Faults:

Since I have had it, nothing is wrong with it. I had to fix the exhaust because a hangar broke.

General Comments:

The car rocks and the best thing I ever bought.

1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.8 Multi Port

Summary:

Better than my old one

Faults:

For the year of this car, it looks great, drives well, very good handling, find this model way better than the newer Z24.

Only thing I really don't like is the head gasket, mine is currently leaking prestone in the engine, very slowly. Is there something I can do to stop this rather than changing the heads?

General Comments:

I think it's fast for the year it's been built. I would believe with a few mods, this thing would take on some newer cars on the 1/4 mile. But just the car like this stock, I doubt it, but it can keep up.

1989 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.0

Summary:

Extremely reliable and nice looking car

Faults:

I have had no major problems with this care so far. I have put a new battery, shocks and struts, brakes and rotors, a transmission pan gasket, and a serpentine belt in the car. All routine maintenance for a car of this age.

General Comments:

This was an old ladies car with 26000 miles on it that I bought for a song 2 years ago. The car sat in a garage and probably never saw rain or snow until I got my paws on it, so it is in ridiculously good condition for its age. I replaced the stock 13 inch rims with 1995 z24 15 inch rims. This made a huge difference in handling and general comfort while driving the car. Yeah, my headliner has fallen a bit too, but what do you want for a car that's 17 years old. I couldn't hold myself up for that long either. There is no rust anywhere on the car thanks to the old ladies investment in Ziebart, her garage, and the fact that she didn't drive it. Unfortunately, when she did drive, she did it poorly as evidenced by the scuff marks on every corner bumper on the car. I tried to buff them out, but I couldn't get them all. A beautiful and reliable car that handles extremely well. If only my wife would let me super-charge it, then it would be REALLY fun. As it is, it is a great and probably rare car.

1989 Chevrolet Cavalier RS Coupe 4 Cylinder

Summary:

Great small-medium sized car

Faults:

New engine needed at 123,000 miles.

New exhaust needed at 145,000 miles.

New air conditioner needed at 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

The cars design is great. It looks very sporty and it is perfect me.

The seats are very comfortable and have no damage at all. There is a small white stain on the back seats though, and the middle seat belt started to mold. But that was my fault, I forgot to close the window one night.

I get great gas mileage (normally 28 mpg).

Its handling is great. The steering is great, also. I've had hardly any problems with it at all, and all the ones I've had were very minimal.

The cars body is in great condition, but has 3 small scratches on the driver and passenger lock. There is a small chip on top of the roof, too. There is no rust at all.

I've liked this car since I've seen it.

The radio is also very standard, no tape or CD.

The car is tri-toned, White, black and red. It looks very good. I haven't seen any other Cavalier that looks like this one.

I love my RS and I'm willing to keep repairing it till it blows up.

I own a 89 Cavalier RS, and I have had it for 3 years.

I have to replace the front drive train on it, but when done it should be good for at least 10 years, seeing as how everything on it is still original.

Oh yes, I forgot to metion I am running on 3 cylinders not 4 like I should be, and still break the speedo needle. That is a good thing.

It is second best to my 76 Camaro, but that is because the Camaro is older and my first car.

I think Chevy did something right in building the cavalier. The only reason I would get rid of my Cavalier is to trade it for a 76 Camaro.
