1993 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 3.1L V6
Summary:
For quick, cheap fun, this is the one!
Faults:
Had to replace starter shortly after purchase, cost: $38.00.
Clutch needs to be replaced, can do it myself for $158.00 and one afternoon (mechanic by trade).
Sunroof leaked, had to replace gasket. Cost: $32.00 including shipping.
The car didn't have a headliner when I bought it, probably ruined by sunroof leak.
General Comments:
I have really enjoyed the short time that I've owned this car. It is quick on acceleration, fairly economical, and runs very well.
Handling is descent, although not as good as an import.
I'm 6' tall and have no complaints about the comfort in the front seats, rear seats are a little cramped, but do-able if necessary.
I haven't raced anyone with this car, but I can tell you that it cannot keep up with a Z71 pickup in stock trim (co-worker left me in dust while leaving work), I'm sure it would have no problems burying a stock or mildly modified Honda though.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Well, my 93 Z24 has left many equally old Mustangs in the dust, smoked an old 5L LX on the highway even though the Z24's better known for its starting acceleration. Also, a 3.2L Acura and many others of the Z24's competition of its day.
But I keep my car in tip-top shape and aside from good oil, filters, tune-up, etc, the only thing I've added to the car 'performance' wise was a short ram intake.

Funny, you can't beat a z71 stock pick up yet everyone else on this forum with a newer model z24 (95 and above) claims to have beaten 5.0 Mustangs and even a few Camaros, just a thought I had.
