1995 Chevrolet Cavalier LS

Summary:

The Car is a LEMON!

Faults:

I had the car 3 hours and the tire went flat. All 4 were rotted out. Cost: $400.

Car had a "leak and a squeak". Took it to my mechanic and had new tensioner belt motor replaced along with serpentine belt. Cost: $360.00.

Another noise a week later: Crank Shaft Pulley was leaking over motor mounts and torque mount. Crank Shaft had to be replaced and new oil put in. Cost: $460.00.

Had the car now 8 months and heard another "noise" under the hood. Compressor this time. Had to be put in and to warranty it had to get accumulator and filter and freon, $877.

Drove out of mechanic's shop and car was bouncing all over the place. Appears I need now a new Idler belt.

I haven't put, but 700 miles on this car, which had 28,031 original miles and I've almost paid in repairs as much as I paid for the car. (paid for car $3,000) Repairs so far: $2,100. I am elderly, disabled and wanted a car to get me around. What a mistake I made. What's next with this car I don't know, but I am positive something will go wrong, it has every month I've had it.

General Comments:

The car is adorable and a good size for a person alone.

The car however seems to need repairs, and major ones at that, weekly.

Great Mileage, but am spending that extra gas money on repairs.

It's a GM product, not a Civic or Corolla. What did you expect?

Parting out my 1995 Chevy Cavalier. The sub frame is bad.

If you got the car used, you must have been scammed. The person definitely knew the problems. Check out the CARFAX next time.

1995 Chevrolet Cavalier

Summary:

Crappy. stay away, very far away from this car!

Faults:

I would like to start by saying that although it looks cute and sporty on the outside, please don't be deceived. I bought this car used and instantly noticed it falling apart. I referred to the car as my "Crapalier" rather than the Cavalier. I had to replace the head gasket at about 110k and the previous owner had to replace it as well!!! The overdrive transmission went out and I got stuck in a very scary intersection two times before we knew what the problem was. The doors were cracked when I got it. overall it was a poopy car and I would NOT recommend a cavalier to anyone. it cost me entirely too much to maintain for the short time that I had it.

I am going to have to defend the Cavalier here. We own a 95 base model, nothing fancy, and the thing is ten years old with almost 152,000 miles on it. It runs wonderfully, with the exception of a few squeaks here and there, and it's even smoother than our '00.

Compared to my friend's Jetta, which is in the shop every other month, this car is immaculate. I also owned a '93 which had 97,000 on it when we sold it, and believe me, you couldn't kill this thing if you tried.

The car was stolen off a mechanic's lot with little or no coolant in the car while it was having the radiator fixed, driven 60 miles and it still ran fine afterwards. (Afterwards meaning after the mechanic replaced the radiator for no charge after car was stolen off his lot -- but that's another story.)

I am not too sure about Chevy's reliability nowadays, but they definitely produced an inexpensive, cheap to maintain car back in the 90's, which has served us well all these years.

Almost everyone here that has had a problem with the Cavalier has had a problem with the head gasket. So it IS a problem. It's a design weakness.

"Even my old '87 Toyota Corolla has 187,000 on it and it is still going and the car is 18 years old."

Dude, it's a Toyota. It's no surprise it's still running so well.
