1986 Chevrolet Celebrity

Summary:

A gas hog V-6 with mileage of a V-8 or worse

Faults:

Water pump had to be replaced three times.

Headliner required replacement.

Heater core required replacement.

Had to replace CV joints.

General Comments:

Car would go from point A to B and started readily, even in cold weather.

This car rarely passed a gas station it didn't like. I thought the gas mileage was terrible.

It was an OK car, but I wouldn't buy another one. My kids hated it and thought it lacked style.

You had a AMC Pacer before and your kids hated the Celebrity?

1986 Chevrolet Celebrity Base 2.5L EFI

Summary:

A worthy vehicle of it's price and status.

Faults:

- Rack and Pinion needed an alignment.

- Ball Joint on the passenger side, needed to be replaced.

- Oil is leaking in the air intake. Mechanics say it's engine wear.

- Muffler needed to be replaced.

- The handle, from the inside of the car, on the passenger side, needed to be replaced.

- The front and back bumpers are cracked on the sides.

- Turn Signal lever needed repairs. It didn't want to turn off, when you signaled to the left.

- Cruise Control needed repairs.

- Headliner in the interior needed to be fixed.

- Dashboard vibrates when driving on the road.

- Paint on the hood and trunk has scratches and scrapes.

- Spark Plugs and the Distributor Caps, needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

When I bought the car for $500, it was in bad condition. Before I could take it to a mechanic, I happened to go into the ditch, which is why the bumpers, turn signal lever, and the ball joint needed to be replaced, not to mention the rack and pinion needed an alignment from this.

With most of the problems fixed, except for the oil leak in the air-intake, I can honestly say that I love this car.

Regardless of what others say about my Celebrity, I have put in several hours of work into it, as well as money; as I believe it's worth it!

My car rides very well, and I've been really impressed with how long it has lasted.

It is a great car, even for winter. It has started each and every time, even in -40 degree weather.

With the price I paid for it, I really believe it's a great car. I plan on fixing it up, until it's the best Celebrity in the world!

1986 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport 2.8 Carbureted V6

Summary:

A fun, reliable car

Faults:

- 2 alternators.

- Overheated once.

- 2 flat tires.

- Jammed parking brake.

- General cosmetic issues.

General Comments:

This car has been the most reliable car we've ever owned. It's 17 years old, and it still gets up and goes every morning without question, and takes us to wherever we want to go. The only reason it costs a little more for running costs is because the carburetor is out of tune, but that's to be fixed shortly. Comfortable to ride in, handles well, and always ready to work.

1986 Chevrolet Celebrity 2.5L

Summary:

A tank ready for battle

Faults:

My motor mounts are blown.

I've had to put a starter in it.

Had to rewire the turn signals.

General Comments:

This is the best damn car anyone could ever ask for. It reminds me a lot of an M-1A1 Abrams tank. It is absolutely unstoppable. The offroading capabilities are astounding. The steering is a dream. I'm thinking of just getting my hands on as many Celebrities as possible. You can get them for so cheap because people are too stupid to realize it's capabilities. Thus, I will capatalize upon their stupidity. Long live the Celebrity!

Bought mine new twenty years ago; only 900,000 mile car I have ever owned and she still gets thirty miles per gallon. If everybody had Celebs we wouldn't have this gas shortage.

I've got an 84 celebrity with 220,000 miles on it. I'm finally putting it to rest, as I just found an 86 celebrity with only 45,000 miles on it. These cars are definitely tanks. I drove mine through the worst conditions Michigan could throw at it. 12 inches of snow covering the entire freeway for 60 miles? No problem. I was the only person passing the plows and salt trucks.
