Faults:

During the 12 years that we had the car, it had its share of problems, but it started to rot away.

General Comments:

These days, we still talk about the old burgundy car. We got it right before our son was born. The car had no power steering, no power brakes, and no air conditioning. It did have the automatic transmission. My wife liked the car, and she drove it quite a bit. It ran really, really strongly, and even our dog at the time liked it as well.

We deeply miss this car, and it had so many memories that we could write a mini novel about it. That's how much we liked the car. Would we ever get another one just like it? Absolutely.

Faults:

The Chevelle had only a few things wrong when I bought it.

The brakes needed adjusting, did that myself, took about 20 minutes.

The transmission crossmember loosened up, tightened it back down, took about 15 minutes.

General Comments:

My Chevelle SS was a restored car when I bought it. The car only needed a few minor items to finish the restoration.

The car gave no trouble. The work done to the car was very good and it was like driving a new 1967 Chevelle. My only gripes are the brakes - 4 wheel drum brakes with no power assist made the car hard to stop quickly.

It went very fast however. The 396 had some high performance parts added to it during the engine rebuilding. A performance cam was added and that gave it somewhat of a rough idle but, once the car was rolling it really went. Nothing could give my Chevelle a decent run on the street. 5.0 Mustangs had no chance with it, left them in the dust scratching their heads wondering where did that Chevy go to?

Late model Z/28s didn't come any closer to outrunning the Chevelle, the 396 big block shut em all down. The gas mileage was about 11.5 but, so what. A 396 big block won't ever get mileage like a Geo Metro. That's just the nature of old muscle cars. So I never held that as a problem. I wish I had enough money to another one.

Faults:

Blew head gasket in 1997-ish, expected after 30 years of life.

Timing chain replaced just recently, it was worn after 33 years of service.

Trunk seal rotted away, trunk has rust. Replaced the seal. Going to fix the rust.

Paint, and new vinyl top.

Needs new suspension.

Nothing else, other than minor tune ups and maintenance.

General Comments:

Cool old car! It gets up and goes well. Has plenty of power, even bone stock.

Looks great, I think '67 is *the* best Chevelle ever. I dislike the other body styles.

Great to go on Sunday drives, in the Summertime.
