1976 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Classic 305ci V-8 (140hp)
Summary:
A great indestructible car, I want to get another to replace it!
Faults:
Burned up the transmission at 130,000, replaced cylinder heads at 170,000, replaced coil springs at the same time. Typical 24 year-old car problems, lack of availablility of some parts.
General Comments:
I got this car from my parents (they bought it new) in '92 and literally drove it into the ground. It just does not have an aftermarket vendor following to help in the fix-up. I loved it, great power and handling for a 4000lb car, plus room for 6 or 7 people (4 door) and distinctive styling that still looks modern today.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I recently acquired a 76 Malibu Classic 4-door sedan. It has the 305ci V8 with a 3-speed automatic and 64,000 original miles. The car has good acceleration and handling characteristics. I expected such a large vehicle to be sluggish and to wallow through the turns. I agree with the performance rating of 8. The car hardly has any miles on it, so I have yet to experience any mechanical difficulties. The biggest problem for this car is all the body rust. Most of the rust is localized to holes in the trunk and wheel wells. The styling of this car has some room for improvement. I hope that a larger selection of aftermarket parts will be available sometime in the near future.
