Summary:

If it wouldn't stall I would like it

Faults:

Driving along at about 25-30, the engine stalled, went dead! hoped it was a fluke so I ignored it, but three days later it happened again three times on the way home from work. the dealer said they couldnt tell what caused it. anybody have this problem corrected or know its source?

General Comments:

Otherwise I like the car.

Well this happened to my car and GM dealers are not mechanic's they are service Tech's, they do what the computer tell them too. I did the research and found that my injectors where done and after GM replaced them my car started to stall on start up not while driving. I figured it out there is a electronic check valve in the gas tank that get a pressure build up and basically pressurized the tank giving no flow to the injectors. so about $200 cdn and an hour under the car and BINGO no more stalling.

NOTE: disconnect battery from trunk not engine bay, the power to the ECM has to be off for at least 1 hour to re cal.

Hope this helps.

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LT 4 Door Sedan

Summary:

High Quality Entry Level GM Product

Faults:

None, at this point.

General Comments:

Engine is quiet and smooth.

However, interior could be more comfortable as seats are a little too firm.

Interior materials seem cheap and fit of trim fabric is somewhat uneven.

Paint appears to be top notch.

Overall fit of body panels is quite good and I have yet to hear any squeaks or rattles.

Car corners well and road noise is kept to a minimum.

Engine could be faster, but is adequate for everyday purposes.

I average 25 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Highway gas mileage could be higher.

Nice stock stereo system.

Backseat is surprisingly roomy.

I would say this car has been reliable. Everybody seems down on GM at the moment, but from the car to the dealership I have had nothing but a positive experience to report. This is the 2nd new car I have owned ( besides the used cars ) , the first being a 2000 VW Beetle. The Beetle at the same amount of mileage already had numerous rattles, the window buttons fell off and I started having engine problems. So far, I am ahead with the Cobalt.

Thank you for your objective review. I would be interested in your thoughts on the vehicles overall ride and handling characteristics especially in poor weather.

So far I have only had the car through one winter, but it did handle the icy roads well and that is with stock tires. Just this past week, I had to drive on flash flooded roads and again the car handled it well. I have been able to maintain full control of the car in these situations without feeling the car is hydroplaning or fishtailing.

The platform the Cobalt is built on is very well designed for good handling in poor road conditions, however the stock tires are not the best for good all weather traction. I'd recommend spending a little extra for some high-quality all weather tires, such as Michelin. Tires make a HUGE difference in a car's handling. If you buy the car several months before winter weather starts, I'd keep the stock tires and then switch them before the rainy/snowy weather. The tire dealer I buy my tires from allows a trade-in amount for nearly new tires. See if you can find a good tire dealer who will do that for you.

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LT 2.4 liter

Summary:

Good mpg, good power, excellent driving comfort

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is probably the nicest "small car" Chevrolet has ever produced. While the handling is not quite up to the level of the Mazda3 or new Civic, the power is effortless in comparison. Fit and finish are first-rate for a domestic in this price class. All in all, it's a very comfortable and easy car to drive.

We have the LT sedan with the Sport Package. Do yourself a favor and blow off the base model. Hand-crank windows? Gimme a break. Also, the coupe (our first choice, initially,) had severe problems with rear visibility, which ruled it out upon driving it.

Thank you for your review. I am considering a Cobalt for my next car. One thing I have to take issue with you for. I am considering the Cobalt, in part, BECAUSE it offers hand cranked windows. Its hard to get hand cranked windows in a car anymore. I hate power windows. They are just one more thing to go wrong, and, anyway, what if your car falls into a river with you in it? The power windows can short out and you can drown in it, trapped like a rat. (Pardon the expression.)
