General Comments:
This car was purchased as a program car by my parents, and has driven like a champ for 10 years.
Performance from the 3.1L is potent and builds quickly from just off idle. While not what I would consider 'smooth', the throttle is fairly linear and is easy for around town and freeway driving.
The suspension could use a little tweaking. It seems vague on the freeway and the power steering is 'pronounced' in the parking lot. Upgrading the stock tires and wheels to a larger diameter and width is advised.
Ergonomics are not bad, although the HVAC controls are set a bit low in my opinion. I've heard complaints of the headlight and wiper controls being a little cheesy, but I don't mind them.
The car is quite roomy inside, especially considering its relatively small actual size. Cup holders are plentiful, as is glove box size. Seat and carpet fabric has held up quite well in this car, as has the finish on plastic pieces.
The seats are supportive, if not perhaps a tad thin on padding. Bolsters are big enough and hold you in place during heavy-cornering.
The electrical system in this car seems to be sub-par. 2 alternators in 10 years seems excessive to me. Not to mention that with the wipers, headlights, and rear defrost all on, the turn signal barely blinks... especially at idle. Recently the rear defroster began malfunctioning, causing its circuit breaker to overheat and trip. Unfortunately, the breaker is shared with the power door locks, so when it trips, the locks only work manually.
My only other complaint is regarding the paint: bad. GM refuses to take blame for the thousands of its cars that have obviously defective paint, but rather than dwell on it, I just had it repainted.

I have a 91 LT too, I've had all the same problems you did + the brakes go out every 4 to 6 months on mine.
