2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS 1.7

Summary:

Pretty good overall

Faults:

I have owned a 2005 Equinox for 6 years now, and haven't had as many issues as others.

I have experienced the sticking ignition (a few times).

Thumping noise (occasionally in the winter) in the rear when it's cold out; prematurely worn brakes & rotors. Nothing to lose sleep over. I took the car to the dealership for the rotors, and they repaired that problem with no hassle, because it was still under warranty.

I am now experiencing a new problem. There is a terrible grinding noise that seems to be on the driver's side when making a right turn or pressing on the brakes. I recently had new brakes installed, which is when the noise began, so I thought the brakes were not installed properly. I had my car checked out at a repair shop, and the mechanic said that he could not find any problem, and couldn't figure out why this was happening. Has anyone experienced this problem and repaired it? I'm trying to avoid dealing with the dealership.

2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS 3.4

Summary:

All around the car is a very good car; never left us on the side of the road

Faults:

1. The only real problem we have with the car is the seats stains real easy.

2. We are on our 2nd CD player.

3. When the back windows are down, we get a funny sound that hurts your ears, but that's fixed by opening your front windows just a little bit.

General Comments:

All around the family loves the car; plenty of leg room and my son is over 6 ft. tall like myself, and no problems with leg room. And on long distance trips, we love it; great gas mileage and the driver's seat is very comfortable.

There is plenty of luggage space. Most of the problems I have read on this site we have not had to deal with, but I do know that some cars are built good and some are not.

I work on cars, and I say if you have a car built on a Friday, you will have problems, and if it is built in the middle of the week, you will have a good car. Think about it; on Friday people want to get out of work fast, and in the middle of the week, people go with the flow.

Remember people, treat your car right and your car will treat you right. Always keep up on the upkeep of your car, and you will be fine for the most part. Sometimes things need to be replaced; that's just how things are.

2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT

Summary:

I wish that I had bought something different.

Faults:

I have some similar issues.

1. The key is hard to turn in the ignition. I have to wiggle the key to get it to turn in the ignition.

2. There is an awful screeching/whistling noise that seems to come to life when the car is warmed up and above 30 miles an hour. The noise is not constant; sometimes the noise won't start unless I hit a pothole. I have been to a few mechanics and they cannot pinpoint the problem. I have been told it is the tensioner wheel, brakes, or wheel bearings.

3. The CD player has stopped working with my favorite CD stuck in it. The steering wheel controls for the radio and cruise work intermittently.

4. The front end makes noises at times, and there is a creak in the steering when steering to the left.

Out of all these ailments, the screeching noise is the most annoying.

General Comments:

In general, the car serves its purpose. In defense of the car, my job does require me to drive about 3,000 miles a month. There is a lot of wear and tear on the car.

The screeching to me sounds like your serpentine belts need replacing, it's nothing major and a fairly cheap fix. Hope I could be of some help...
