2007 Chevrolet Equinox LT

Summary:

Would not recommend

Faults:

Have had numerous issues with the brakes and wheel bearings. Also, had several occasions when the car would not start and had to have it towed due to "programming" or computer issues? Paint is also chipping and rusting in areas, and the car is only 3 years old. GM service has also been very poor.

General Comments:

The vehicle is very comfortable, but too many safety issues.

Seems some certain GM models were tailor-made for the rental fleets. Once that odometer creeps up toward 100k mark, it's time to jump ship before they self-destruct.

I've owned late-model Lumina and Malibus, which were built like throw-away cars after 100k. I'm not a big fan of leasing vehicles, but when I test-drove an Equinox my sister-in-law had briefly, I got the distinct impression that a low-mileage lease would be the way to go with that one.

I'm still the proud owner of a Lincoln Town Car and Chevy Silverado, and haven't given up on the domestic brands yet.. and I hope I never have to.

Summary:

Reliable ride with nice features

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong, really.

Both mirror-covers on the sun visors broke off, but that is it.

General Comments:

I bought a 2007 Equinox in November 2006 to replace my 2000 Expedition, which I felt was too large.

I wanted a smaller SUV that would be reliable and save me some gas money when compared to my old Expedition.

I compared the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Equinox, and the Toyota RAV4. I decided on the Equinox because the pricing was better, and I like to stick with the American car makers when I can.

My Equinox has cloth seats and an upgraded Pioneer sound system. I have definitely been satisfied with the SUV, as it has never given me any trouble (knock on wood).

I would recommend it, though GM is about to introduce a new Equinox for 2010 that looks even nicer!

What a disappointment. I bought a 2007 Chevy Equinox last July based on three factors:

1) The truck I was looking at was at 450000 km, which is very acceptable.

2) The interior space is incredible.

3) I wanted to give a chance to GM through their restructuring and also support our fellow north American auto workers...

What a mistake:

After only 3 months of driving, I noticed the following:

1) Gas mileage is horrible... they rated it at 12 liters/100km city.. big lie!!

2) I have water leaks in the car, that wets the carpets... the water flows and is being soaked by the floor mats with mold and mildew following. I contacted GM, and since my warranty expired last month, they are iffy about helping me... hopefully they will make a goodwill repair...

This last issue is a really bad situation... the mold, the smell (which I was able to control thanks to febreeze), trusting this truck is something else..

I definitely regret this purchase... I should have stayed with Mazda or VW...
