General Comments:
I had high hopes for this car, because my wife had a Malibu that was decently reliable and sturdy. I thought this car would be a good, economical, all around car with plenty of room, yet still smallish. After two years of daily use commuting to school and work it has failed me. It never left me stranded, but it did have two occasions of coolant burn; one occasion a head gasket, the other a cracked block.
Ride is typical "small car" with a little extra body roll, sluggish performance and surprisingly bad fuel efficiency for its size.
Interior styling is nice, but cheap feel and bad layout leave you wondering what GM was thinking. The dome light is behind your passenger and the window controls are down by your shifter. GM moved these in later models.
Exterior is typical GM Cobalt/Cavalier quality; not the best, but I've seen worse.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I certainly agree, these are really nice looking little trucks, kind of like a 1950's panel van meets small fuel efficient car. I like the Nissan Cube as well, but the HHR has a more classic look, especially the sporty SS model.
