1968 Chevrolet Impala

Summary:

Beautiful and fun to drive

Faults:

Had a minor transmission problem, but it wasn't worth fixing it, since the car was still driveable.

Cruise control didn't work that well, but the car was almost 20 years old. Motor mounts were also a little "beat".

General Comments:

Beautiful lines! The car was a 4-door hard top (no post between the front and rear windows).

Plenty of power: 327 with a 4BBL carb and 3 speed Turbo-400 transmission. It had a factor single exhaust, but I upgraded to a dual exhaust through turbo mufflers.

Also used a re-curved distributor and a low-restriction air filter.

1968 Chevrolet Impala 4 door hardtop 307 2 barrel

Summary:

Cruising sex on tires

Faults:

Outer transmission gaskets have to be changed as front and rear seals only replaced.

Transmission (hydro 400) is strong.

Rear window seats falling apart due to rear window leak.

General Comments:

My 1968 Chevy Impala 4 door hardtop no post (307 and 400 is a true untouched survivor).

No wiring problems, great on gas, instant nasty power, but best driven with your pinky finger.

I truly believe that when they designed this grocery getter, they were trying to give grandma the thrill of her life daily!

In days of old, when knights were bold, and real cars were invented! :)

Now, that's a REAL car -- only the gaskets, not the whole transmission, had to be replaced. Cheap and easy to fix. Pity no car these days -- at any price range -- will let its owner keep it and maintain it for life.
