2006 Chevrolet Impala LT 3.5 V6

Summary:

Stay away from GM

Faults:

When I first bought this car I loved it. Rode great, handled great and 30 MPG on the road. Then I stored it for 2 month when I left the state. When I came back the car was dead and had developed an electrical problem that of to date, 2 very qualified people have not been able to figure out. I will probably have to salvage this very nice car.

The worst problem you can have with today's cars is an electrical problem. After doing research I have discovered that the most likely car to give you an electrical problem is a GM. So after many years of being a GM driver, they have just lost me for life.

General Comments:

Great car unless you are one of the unfortunate ones to have an electrical problem

Did you cross the wires on the replacement battery, or did you not secure the ground wire tight enough? I had a rarely driven late model GM car with an old leaking liquid acid battery that dripped acid straight into the computer directly underneath the battery tray. Went to a gel battery. Over a 2k fix.

2006 Chevrolet Impala SS

Summary:

Stays in the shop

Faults:

Bad transmission - replaced twice.

Engine bad at 90,000 miles - the 6 cylinder went bad under warranty thank god.

Clicking noise under the dashboard now. As of today the heat doesn't work; doesn't blow or nothing.

Had shocks put on.

Bad wheel bearing twice.

Radiator went bad.

A lot of different sensors replaced.

Defrost doesn't work at all on the back glass.

I've spent a lot of $ on repairs with this car. I just so love the look & comfort, but it's killing my pocket book.

The clicking noise was the blower motor going bad. Now that it failed completely, just replace it.

173,000 miles. This car is whispering in your ear "trade me in."

You bought this car at under 200 miles long ago. How was your experience at each 10000 mile increment? You will never buy one again, yet kept it all this time? Ever have a trans flush?

2006 Chevrolet Impala LS V6

Summary:

True GM garbage

Faults:

Transmission failure.

Tie-rods.

Electrical system.

Water pump.

Head gasket.

A/C compressor.

Power windows.

Power steering.

Alternator.

General Comments:

This thing has been a complete nightmare since it hit 60,000 miles.

This car is not safe; the tie-rod failure and the power steering failure could have killed someone if I had been going at high speeds.

The transmission has never been right, even though it's been back to the dealership half a dozen times to have the "computer reset".

The odometer displayed ERROR a few months ago and now I don't know the exact miles of this lemon.

GM should be ashamed of this piece of garbage.

2006 Chevrolet Impala LTZ 3.9

Summary:

It's not a lemon, but the transmission has never been right.

Faults:

The transmission has never shifted right, and the dealers have never been able to determine why. Now that it is out of warranty, it is slipping more often and more severely. Like my last two GM cars, I'll probably have to replace the transmission soon. The engines in these cars are great, but the transmissions are too light to match the power (per a trusted, certified mechanic with 40 years of experience).

General Comments:

I had a 2001 Impala LS, which is the reason I bought my 2006 Impala LTZ. The quality has gone down slightly, and the fuel economy has dropped.

2006 Chevrolet Impala

Summary:

This car is a lemon

Faults:

Outer tie rod end.

Front end.

Power steering pump.

Idler.

Ignition switch.

Electrical problems.

2 front end alignments.

Complete transmission.

Water pump.

Got 75,000 extended warranty when purchased. Started using oil between changes at 70,000 miles, dealer said to bring the car to them for changing oil, so they can actually monitor the consumption. Took it to the dealer for an oil change at 73,000 miles, they said the oil sending unit is possibly leaking. They did not remove the exhaust manifold to inspect, they ordered a sending unit, returned for next oil change at 77000 miles and 1 quart low, they replaced the sending unit, but the oil filter housing is cracked, and they say it is no longer under warranty.
