Faults:

Replaced the battery; knew it was bad when I bought the truck.

Tranny replaced with a used tranny by the dealer before I bought it at 215,000.

Rear end replaced with used rear end by the dealer before I bought it at 215,000.

Pivot arm replaced by previous owner before traded in at 215,000.

Tune up done at 215,000.

General Comments:

1992 Chevrolet K1500 Extended Cab.

350 V8 true dual exhaust, auto transmission, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks. 60/40 split bench on front folding bench in rear.

Starts up great at -10, -20, or -30 below. Fires up every time.

The V8 rumble can't ever be replaced, and the power is amazing; at 218,000 it runs very well

13 MPG city, 18-20 MPG highway, and it rolls down the freeway at an idle.

This model is set up with the complete tow package with electric braking unit, and was used to pull a 5th wheeler.

I drive it as a daily driver on the freeway, and it shifts from 2wd to 4wd while in motion seamlessly.

This model also has the oil cooler mounted as part of the radiator.

This truck was made from 1988 to 2002 without changing that much, so parts are easy to find and repairs are very cheap.

I love this truck. I've found the older trucks to be very reliable, and I'll run this one till I can't fix it. Or get parts to fix it :D

Faults:

Ball joints, exhaust rusted and small intake coolant leak.

Still runs awesome and tows great (I tow my 1969 Chevy Biscayne drag car 3,900 lbs without a trailer).

General Comments:

I see people spending $35,000 on new trucks equipped like mine, extended cab, 4 wheel drive, auto, A/C, P/W, TILT, ETC. I spent $1,200 2 years ago and am not afraid to load anything or tow anything. I just keep the oil changed and tranny serviced and she keeps rolling with 18+ MPG!!! Just like my '71 Chevy C/20, built (though a lot better MPG) Chevy tough!

Faults:

Tie rod ends; previous owner had big offroad tires on it with torsion bars tightened up, so it wears out tie rods quicker.

Ball joints, same thing, big tires not made for stock ball joints.

Tailgate button on dash has to be pushed 2 or 3 times before it clicks all the way open; never did work since I got it; I have gotten used to pushing it a few times first.

Factory floor mats were worn out where gas pedal foot sits; got a new set.

Thermal axle actuator would not turn 4x4 on fast enough. When I would switch the floor shifter into 4x4, and it would take 2 minutes approximately for the 4x4 to turn on. Read online about this, and it's a common problem; they make a cable unit now so you use the floor shifter to engage the transfer case and pull a cable to lock the front axles up. For now I just wait until it's warmed up and the 4x4 lights come on. Plan to upgrade to a manual cable, instead of replacing the electronic unit.

General Comments:

This truck has been very reliable. For a older truck that was cheap to purchase, it has not needed anything major. The motor and tranny keep going and going. I would not hesitate to take this truck on a road trip across North America, and I have.

I did 18 hours of driving for 5 days straight, and when in overdrive on the highway, it is incredible on fuel. My minivan got the same mileage, and was not as comfortable or even close to as sure footed in snow and rain.

I was getting 18 MPG in overdrive on the highway, and for approx 6000kms of driving I paid $320 in fuel. I kept every receipt I put into gas, I also tried to keep the revs at about 2500 RPM, give or take a couple hundred. Of course if you kick it into passing mode, the revs instantly go up to 3500 RPM and you're not going to experience such awesome gas mileage, but if you need that power it is there. Overdrive automatic transmissions get better gas mileage than a manual trans does as it is in overdrive. Read about overdrive on yahoo.com to see why it works.

Faults:

Due to the nice chunk of miles, the inside of the truck needs a little TLC, but other than that: I had the outside redone shortly after I got it, and the clutch has gone out twice.

General Comments:

It's a very nice vehicle. I wouldn't trade my truck for anything, and it's almost as if it's become a part of me.
