1989 Chevrolet K3500 Silverado Big Block 454
Summary:
Chevy said it best 'Like a Rock'
Faults:
The Big Block proved itself nicely, no major issues there.
The frame and body were solid. Rocks the trucks back wheels picked up on the road knocked off the paint on the top of the dually flairs for some reason, and there were some minor paint issues, but nothing too serious.
The truck had a history of wiring issues, but the cause turned out to be a broken side clearance light on one of the dually hubs.
The brakes needed replacement as they were worn out doing work when we got it. And the exhaust pipe behind the muffler fell out.
General Comments:
The truck was very solid, and except for the wiring issues, it was as rock solid as any Chevy truck could be. It wasn't in the best of shape because it was just an old beat up farm truck, but it still would do anything you made it do. The engine was very powerful, but it did have a hard time starting in the cold.
The interior wasn't the best being a 1989 Chevrolet and all, but the seats were comfortable and the controls were easy to use. There was plenty of room inside, and the only problem I had was that my knee would hit the shift level when going off road putting it into neutral.
The main problem was the 454 was a very thirsty engine, and the duals made it a very bad winter driver, but other than these I loved the truck.
