1994 Chevrolet Lumina 3.8
Summary:
Good, but not great
Faults:
Rear tailgate lock went early on in previous ownership.
Passenger door-handle broke last year.
Alternator went out two years ago.
Passenger side power window motor went two years ago.
Air conditioner compressor went out two years ago.
General Comments:
My mother bought this car new and I have owned it since about 2004.
It has 160,000 miles on it now and has given us relatively little trouble.
Rear tailgate lock has to be one of this car model's weak points, as it went out many years ago, early in my family's ownership of the vehicle.
The passenger door-handle has also gone out, but this I think is due to excessive wear. The door lock was not unlocking properly and my husband thought it was unlocked and pulled to hard, which resulted in the door-handle mechanism breaking.
The passenger side power window motor blew, however, when I investigated, I found a plastic ring (like the kind you take off a new milk jug top) down inside, which I think caused the window to stick and burned out the motor.
The air-conditioner compressor went out and began locking up the engine. Check this out, I measured using a piece of string what length the serpentine belt needed to be in order to bypass the air conditioner compressor and she works like a charm now. Of course, I have no air conditioning, but she isn't locking up anymore and, frankly, I'm not spending $800 to fix my air conditioner.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
