Faults:

New steering rack at 15,000

4 sets of brakes... so far

Keyless entry works whenever, had this problem since day one.

Fan motor replaced at 20,000

Entire front suspension at approx. 29,000

PassLock security ignition switch replaced

Front speakers replaced

A/C switch replaced, went on and off whenever

Tires replaced at 20,000...they sucked

3 thermostats... so far

New tie rods last year-just before warranty up-thank goodness

Misc. lights keep blowing out

Gas mileage not the greatest, dealer says everything is the way it is supposed to be as far as adjustments etc.

General Comments:

For being my first brand new car I am not impressed. Everything was repaired/replaced under warranty, but now that the warranty is up, I hope I have no more problems... otherwise this car is being pushed into the ocean!!! The dealership was not very nice either, were nice to me after I call GM twice and complained. I had a 1988 Pontiac Bonneville with over 200,000 miles when I sold it, and some of the things that went wrong in the Malibu never went wrong in the Bonneville!!

Faults:

Where do I start. Tires failed inspection at 30,000 miles, intake manifold gasket replaced, heater/AC blower failed, cruise control failed, 4 serpentine belts, an alternator, a tensioner, an idler pulley, a water pump assembly - the serpentine belt still squeals. Electronic mirrors failed. Chevy has lost a customer for life with this hunk of junk!

Faults:

Problems with the brakes, Problems with fuel system, More brake problems, flasher unit went bad, heater fan stopped working in 1 and 2 spots, key fob went bad, electric window doesn't work right, CD player overheats, lights went bad...

General Comments:

Car is to heavy for the little pads, Still don't know whats wrong with fuel system, Car eats brakes, Was charged $104 to change a flasher unit that I could have done for 20, Heater fan just don't work in position 1 and 2, Key fob where the battery goes broke so there is no contact with the metal clip, window seems to be kind of broke off its track sometimes, CD player gets real hot, lights just blow.

Faults:

Turn signals work intermittently.

Hazard Lamps do not work at all.

Passlock theft system will not allow car to start for 10 minutes and then may do so again.

General Comments:

There was a recall issued on February 5, 2004 on the Hazard/Turn Lamps. I have contacted GM about these concerns and they stated they could not be of service for the Passlock theft system problem. There should be a way to deactivate it. There has been several occasions where it was a huge inconvenience such as being late to pick up my child from school or late to work. I am a single mom and I cannot afford to pay a mechanic to fix this problem, so I just deal with it as it comes. Otherwise the car has been good. I do prefer my Toyota Solara over the Chevy Malibu!
