2006 Chevrolet Malibu LS 2.2L

Summary:

My Malibu LS has been reliable, good on gas and I have not had any problems

Faults:

My Malibu has been solid. I have not had any issues with this vehicle. I have had it 6 months and put 12000 miles on it.

General Comments:

What attracted me to this car was the gas mileage for a nicely sized car.

I drive it to work and get 29 mpg. I go to the mountains about once a month and have gotten 30 plus mpg. I have not taken a trip on the interstate for long periods yet but I would expect to get 33 to 35 mpg.

I like the interior. I find the car roomy and comfortable.

The Malibu is a great value for the price I paid.

2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Summary:

Good to very good

General Comments:

I am a fan of hatchbacks and as there are no import dealers in my area, the Maxx was a good bet.

The ride and handling are OK. The seats are comfortable and have good side support for an average size person.

The engin has very good passing power at highway speeds, but lacks low end torque. Lots of pedal travel to get it to move off the line.

A few things that I don't care for are the cargo light in the back should be overhead as the side location does not provide enough lighting.

Also the wipers tend to accumulate a lot of ice. The windshield defroster hits too high and does not keep the wiper area warm enough to melt water that runs down and accumulates on the wipers. Very poor winter wiper performance.

Side windows could be tinted more. A rear wiper should be standard.

Otherwise generally pleased with the car.

I am on my second Maxx, after the first was totaled in a serious accident. The Maxx did a great job of protecting me.

I have great low-end torque, in both Maxxs! This is what sold the car to us, over the Passat, and the Subaru wagons.

2006 Chevrolet Malibu LS 2.2

Summary:

A great mid size car

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car, it only has 700 miles on it. I will keep you posted with every oil change.

General Comments:

The car is wonderful. I am 6'3 and there is plenty of room to spare, unlike my wife's Neon.

The car handles very well, and the 2.2 engine performs well. I'm getting 29 miles to the gallon at the moment, I'm sure it will get even better as the car is broken in.

The interior of the car is set up very user friendly.

We truly love this car so far, though I have only had it a week. It gets a little bit better gas mileage than my wife's 2005 Neon. The car is well equipped for being a base model.

Let us know if you have any problems with the intermittent power steering failures. Many Malibu's have this problem.

You would think the GM engineering team would have taken the time to orient the rear muffler out of sight.

A muffler hanging down (noticed) from the back of a vehicle is a clear indication that the car was pushed through engineering without any QC.

The above is sad since the actual overall design and function of the vehicle is pleasing.

I planned to buy a Maxx until I viewed the car from the back and noticed the poor finishing of the latter.

Imagine in 1 year what the muffler will look like, here you have a shiny new vehicle with a stupid, hanging, aluminium/steel rusted muffler for everyone to clearly see.

Big mistake courtesy of GM!
