1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Sport Coupe 4.3L Fuel Injected V6
Summary:
A fond childhood memory
Faults:
RUST!!! This car started to rust two months after it was purchased by my grandmother back in 1986.
Door would not shut one day.
Driver's window failed once.
Rear view mirror fell off.
Shift knob became unscrewed.
Gear select indicator broke.
Battery mysteriously failed only at the grocery store.
Not bad at all for a then ten year old car.
General Comments:
The most gorgeous car you ever saw. My grandmother had offers everytime she went to the grocery store. It was this beautiful light yellow/beige exterior and had a nice caramel/dark tan interior. It had a full bench seat, power windows, manual locks, and wire wheel covers. In 1996, when my the woman my grandma worked for bought her a Ciera, she gave Monte to me. I was only eight. Even though we could've kept it, I gave it to my cousin out of the kindness of my heart because he had no car. THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!!! My cousin lowered it, replaced the stereo, smoked and burned holes in it and wanted to paint it blue. Later, he blew the motor and sold to a guy in Davie, Florida. I cried for 2 weeks straight. That car was my life, the happiest memory of my childhood, and the only object I loved (not including family). My plans for the future are to buy an exact replica of the car or if possible, buy it back from the current owner. It will only be eight more months until I get my permit here in South Florida. I understand that 1986 was the last year for the sport coupe body style and was the only year you could get the sport coupe, sport coupe CL, luxury sport, SS, and SS Aero Coupe all in he same year. The sport coupe was phased out by the LS in 1987. In my opinion, that was a big mistake. If, by chance, you have a similar Monte or know someone who has one, please e-mail me at saturn9761@hotmail.com.
P.S. If you are the owner of my grandmother's Monte Carlo please email me. Thank you.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Sounded like a great car. That was the biggest mistake you could have ever made with that car. My grandpa gave me his '76 Monte Carlo and I still have it. People ask if I'm selling it all the time. I tell them no because I know it wouldn't be worth what they offer. I also know what could happen to it. It will get turned into a lowrider and made to look ridiculously stupid. Anyway, I hope you find that car again, in one piece and in restorable condition. Check out my review about my car here under 1976 Monte Carlo.

Attention everyone! There is news that in the 2005 redesign of the Monte Carlo, it will be shifted to a mid-luxury platform, have a rear wheel drive configuration (a ft. wheel drive option) and a V8 option! finally! A V8 and rear wheel drive! Check out www.motortrend.com for more information.

Some information for you, Monte Carlo fan...
1988 was the last year for the Monte Carlo, and could be had in CS (Base) LS (Luxury Sport) and of course the SS, at least in Canada. The 1987 only Aerocoupe was a limited production car that Chevrolet made 200 (I think) copies of in order for its body style to be used in NASCAR. I believe that it was a US-only model.
Even though '88 was the last year for the 'Carlo, GM discontinued its production in February (?) of '88, as well as the Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix, for a half-year model run, making the '88's more rare than other years.
Too bad GM, in there misguided wisdom went to front wheel drive crap for the new Monte Carlo and Impala for that matter.
My '87 Monte Carlo SS will always have a place of honor in my driveway! Cheers!
