1988 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 2.8 V6 fuel injected

Summary:

One tough off road SOB

Faults:

As with most older Jimmies, the front control arms and the ball joints have needed to be replaced as well with tie rods and tie rod ends.

Seat wear not that bad, the previous owner neglected them though so I will need new ones.

The rear axle seals are leaking into the drums.

New air filter, previous owner neglected replacement.

Rust and rot around the wheel wells and fenders.

General Comments:

Pretty good truck, I only had to pay 1,600 for it because I worked at the dealership.

The read seats fold down which is great, I can fit my tool box, creeper, and any parts I need in the truck.

I would easily pick this older SUV over a brand new econo car for practicality.

Engine is small, but doesn't use too much fuel.

Because of the size of the engine I will probably need to purchase a crate engine in order to equip it with a supercharger.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Ext Cab Sport 4X4 4.3 Ltr. Gasoline

Summary:

This is by far one of the best out there!

Faults:

I have had problems with a lot, but before I get started on that let me say that I have owned 8 S trucks and I have only have major problems with this one. This truck was put threw everything from towing to mudding, I have had problems with suspension, well I have no leaf springs, and the front is just wasted, But its still a very good ride. The ignition switch went, the oxygen sensor, and the distributor. Other than that I have had no other problems except a new thing I just discovered, my four wheel high doesn't engage anymore, but my four wheel low does and when the truck is pushed or 60mph the center bearing by the transmission starts to vibrate the whole truck. But she was repaired to showroom condition, and then I got rear ended by a semi just the tractor, no trailer, at 45mph, I was at a dead stop. The rear end was almost fine the tailgate was a little bad, but the rest of the truck was fine. No bent frame or nothing the bed just buckled in a little bit. If you would like to ask me more about this truck email me at sledman@comcast.net And I am currently selling the truck to get a Bigger Truck so if anyone is interested email me at sledman@comcast.net the truck is being sold for $1200.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4.3L

Summary:

A great 4wd SUV

Faults:

The 2 door 4wd s10 blazer has been a great truck. It had the Tahoe package, which was power windows, power locks, power steering, air conditioning, high back bucket seats, and the upgraded interior. At 220,000 miles, the water pump went south, and about 235,000 miles the timing chain jumped a tooth and had to be replaced. Other than that, I never had a problem with it. Seats were in good condition, all the gages worked, the drive train was silky smooth and the 4wd worked perfectly. The paint was glossy, and the wheels would polish out nicely.

General Comments:

The truck had a lot of power and could spin the tires from a dead stop. I added a performance exhaust system including pace-setter headers and a Dynomax muffler. I also installed a K&N air filter and B&M trick shift transmission fluid for harder shifts. The truck had a 2" suspension lift and 32x12.5x15 mud tires on it. It was very fun on road, and even better off-road due to it's short wheelbase.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Base 2.5 Liter L4 TBI

Summary:

Chevys never die, they only go faster!

Faults:

New radiator.

Valve cover gasket.

Bench seat cracking and splitting.

Grinds in reverse.

Hard to start when hot.

Rough shifting.

Strange growling from left rear, probably wheel bearing.

Drivers floor starting to rust.

Engine and tranny mounts needed.

Front shocks need replacing.

Idler arm and tie rod ends are worn.

Replaced bed with one from another S10.

General Comments:

The truck gets me from A to b. it's a reliable engine, sometimes called the "Iron Duke". I got the truck for $400 from some shady mechanic who was happy to see it go. The engine has 150,000 and seems strong, you know what they say, chevys never die, they only go faster, and its true. It would be a cinch to drop a 305, or 350 in it. I love having a manual, but GM just doesn't have a clue about them. It grinds in reverse, and shifts roughly if you try to shift to first before coming to a complete stop. when you get going its not so bad, This truck screws on the highway! Iv always wanted a Chevy, and it didn't dissapoint me! Would I have wanted the 2.8, or 4.3... god yes, but for now the four tech does alright. It's an old Chevy beater, but I know she'll be there to get me home! The truck is the strip model, Only has fuel and speedo. No cigarette lighter which is a b***h because I can't hook up my personal CD player! No power steering. It's a true adventure trying to parallel park with no power steering, and a manual. Its got a new bed off another S10, because the old one rusted out. If you're looking at this site and trying to decide if you should buy this an S10, or for that fact any Chevy, go ahead and get it! It's a good truck, and you can find parts anywhere. don't be discouraged if its got the four tech, give it a tune up and shes all set! chevy for life!

I think the owner of the S-10 with the rough shifting trans. and grinding reverse gear has a problem with clutch not fully disengaging. The transmissions in these trucks operate very smoothly when the clutch is in good working order. A possible remedy might be changing one or the other of the slave cylinders or maybe both. The simplest is probably to check the fluid level in the clutch reservoir first.
